Nothing to get excited about... the bed used was the one from 'The Hub'.
Interestingly, The Hub was on air on BBC World at the time, who used the same into as the News Channel but the bed carried on with Nik Gowing carrying on after the News Channel had opted out to do the rest of their headlines.
Think it was a simulcast, but just for the stuff from Tokyo with Tim both joining him at the same time on both channels.
I didn't recognise it as The Hub bed at all, and the bulletin I was referring to was the one which aired one hour prior to The Hub, presented on BBC World by Tim (Tokyo) and Peter Dobbie (Lon). I'm almost sure it wasn't The Hub's.
The Hub, (aired at 4pm London) was presented by Tim (Tokyo) and Nik Gowing (London), and the conventional Hub bed was used as normal. The preceding bulletin definitely had a different one.
I think I may have seen the same bizarre top-of-the-hour introduction, and in fact had it recorded on my PVR:
