Odd that I still remember that address and the 09011 10 50 10 number Smile I liked Swag to be fair, thought he was cool at the time.

The address (Birmingham B1 2JL) had been valid for pretty much the entire lifetime of Children's ITV on ITV (bar probably the Stonewall era). Since then, for completeness, Postcode B1 2JL doesn't exist or isn't used anymore, and PO Box 4000 now appears to have been reassigned to HMRC.

Stonewall come from the central offices in Brum, so it was still the same address.

FUN FACT: When I was at university in Birmingham in the late nineties I used to have my hair cut at a hairdressers down the road from Central and the staff used to freelance on hair and make-up for CITV.

1983 & 1984 - spaceship/network centre era. Links pre-recorded.
1987 - Gary Terzza and Debbie Shore era - went fully live for the first time.
1988 - Mark Granger era
1989-1991 - Stonewall era - Scally the Dog et al

Making me feel a bit old, this thread, because the above was my era, and it illustrates how I could never get on with Children's ITV because in the two and a half years Andy Crane was in the Broom Cupboard (who had been promoted from within, and was replaced by someone else promoted from within), he faced three different set-ups and four different presenting teams. I remember being absolutely baffled when they revamped it all in 1989 with a totally different team given they'd only just revamped it six months earlier, obviously not being aware it was now being made by a different company, presumably had Central known they were going to lose the contract they wouldn't have done that revamp. I don't know how kids could get into it when it kept on changing around, but clearly many did. I always thought Jerry Foulkes was quite a boring presenter as well, I'm afraid.

Although I much preferred CBBC, I did occasionally watch Children's ITV and unsurprisingly the time I watched it the most was when I was reading Look-In which obviously promoted their attractions prominently. During the Mark Granger era I watched it quite a lot, but then in 1989, I didn't much care for the Stonewall set-up and then Fast Forward began, which I defected from Look-In to get (although I started getting Look-In as well again soon after, presumably another comic I was getting had closed down so I start buying it again). After that I would only watch Children's ITV if the CBBC line-up that day was really bad or truncated for sport or something.

Remember Scally the Dog more than any of those presenters, but only when we reminded of him. I was certainly more of a CITV viewer in my younger days though probably flicked back and two between the two as I got older - certainly tended to watch the 4.40pm show on CITV over the 4.35pm show on CBBC.

8:30 on this clip...

shows that the Stonewall address was different:

CITV, PO Box 55, Birmingham, B1 2DA.

I never understood why they didn't use a studio, but did present around the Central building and use a gallery. Would it have been down to studio hire costs and if so why were they able to use the building?

Well that told me. Wink

Here is some more details about Stonewall.

Quote:
From 3 April 1989, the independent production company Stonewall Productions won the contract to produce Children's ITV presentation. Stonewall Productions was headed up by Michael Jackson, a Central staffer who used his expertise to prepare a suitable application.

Whereas Central had restricted links to the station's former in-vision presentation studio, Stonewall chose not to use a fixed set, but instead presented links from various areas of Central's headquarters at Broad Street in Birmingham, utilising a rotating team of presenters which included Clive Warren (now a DJ), Jeanne Downs (a singer), Jerry Foulkes (a producer who left Children's ITV on 22 December 1989) and a large puppet dog called Scally

Apparently the only other thing Stonewall did was this Ghostbusters documentary, made to air on CITV.

Stonewall was not programme maker.

Stonewall was not programme maker.

I'm certain they did do that, I remember seeing it and i'm sure they were credited for something. Plus it's on BFI with Stonewall named as the makers.

Another thing that clip makes me think of is how on late 80s/early 90s Thames shows, the copyright strap used to wipe on letter by letter. I've always wondered why they did that!

The second from bottom paragraph: "CITV's monthly magazine." Does anyone remember this? I have absolutely no recollection, and there is nothing on the internet.
