The randomness of that comment made me laugh at least!
DVB is being about as cryptic as one of the questions on the old 15-1 about the obscure names of Belgian theatrical stage directors in the 1930's.
According to John Lloyd:
Lloyd said Fry had been talking about going “for two or three years”. “It’s tiring, everyone wants him, he is all over the world doing those extraordinary documentaries and he’s got his own production company to run. We have had a great run, it’s time to move on.”
Sandi Toksvig ruins anything she is on. I can't watch the new Fifteen To One because of her awful presenting on it. I fear she will do the same to QI. Shame Stephen has left, but surely someone a lot better than Sandi could have been found.
I don't necessarily agree that she ruins everything, however I'm not sure that she is the right person for the job. I'm glad she had to give up The News Quiz on R4 as it became more about her quips than the guests. I'm a big Stephen Fry fan, but began to lose interest in QI last series. Meanwhile ... BBC Scotland have decided to time shift the first episode to half eleven on Friday - treating their viewers with the usual respect.
It also of course leaves the possibility of Stephen Fry being a genuine bona fide guest in the future, which would be quite intriguing.
Toksvig will be a fine host. Quizzes have survived host changes in the past. Because QI has a projected run due to its alphabetical format, and such a dedicated production team, behindthescenes setup and fanbase, I guess it is more likely than most to struggle through to the end.
I think Victoria Coren Mitchell would have been another strong candidate but I'm confident Sandi will do just fine.
There's something indefinably smug about VCM that rubs me up the wrong way. I wasn't much of a fan of Sandi Toksvig in years gone by either, but have warmed to her since I started listening to The News Quiz, and I'll think she'll do just fine as host. I can already hear her saying witheringly, "Oh, Alan..."

Honestly, I see this all the time, and while I'm not putting thoughts into your brain I wonder how much of this is just the sight of a funny, intelligent and confident woman. People hate that.
Dunno. I'm
fairly
sure I'm not a mysoginist, but I haven't been tested. She just always seems a bit too satisfied with herself (and she plugged her own book on

once. Don't think Ofcom ever got back to me on that). When I think of a male presenter that I feel the same way about, I'll let you know.
I don't deny that she's smart and confident, and that some people will dislike her for it, but not me.
