It bugged me having to watch his routine on the Royal Variety which he lifted practically word for word from Brian Conley (and even then, who's to say it's Conley's own trick). And he had the cheek to say he was preparing to perform a trick "all of [his] own".
It is interesting that they used footage of Tommy Cooper's last act though. As soon as the golden coat came out, I was starting to think they were actually going to show his death at 7pm on a Saturday evening.
Thank god. I was worried they'd tweak things to ensure there was an actual winner but they stayed true to that part of the format at least. The original Japanese version has only had three winners in 30 tournaments, and the US version hasn't produced a winner in seven seasons.

They always have a winner. If nobody finishes the course and officially becomes a Ninja Warrior, they still have a Last Man Standing. That person is the winner.
I notice there's some controversy about a female contestant who took part in semi-final 1, came ninth, but was edited into semi-final 2's footage instead, since only six people finished the course. I want to see a change next series. Instead of the top 10 from each heat going through to the semis and the top 7 from each semi going to the final, it should be the top times from all heats and the top 14 across both semi-final episodes. Someone shouldn't be eliminated because they came 11th when they would've been 7th on a different episode.
Well it should simply be anyone who finishes the course. I think too the time limit should come in earlier - if they had it for the main qualifier they'd probably actually get more people through as I do think it's hesitation that kills the momentum. Would also make the "Beat the Wall" moment much more interesting if it's against the clock.

Joe Pasquele's also used the exact same routine with exactly the same "early go" joke, it featured in at least one of the DVDs of a live recording of one of his shows. It isn't new by any stretch of the imagination and most probably started in street magic - somebody somewhere probably added a sword.

I didn't. But the lead-up to the clip and the way Mulhern was speaking gave clues that that were where they were going.
