Alright. Well that's a load of crap. Not sure what I was expecting following last year's hideousity and the "Love..." rubbish that followed.
Even for wrapping paper it's dull.
I guess it matters little as the only programme I'm even remotely interested in on BBC One this Christmas is Doctor Who, so I suppose like the rest of their bland presentation it'll be easily avoided.
Simple - a bit too simple perhaps - but nice enough and much better than last years and a nice contrast to the couple before that. Not sure they're enough to sustain nearly a month though - would be fine for little over a week, but as it is we'll be bored of them by Friday 13th!
Not a fan of the Tom Jones / Huw promo at all - pointless.
I'm a bit confused at what to think really. They're on the minimal side, but in execution it reminds me of what BBC1 gave us in the late 80's and at various points of the 90's, especially the music. So yeah, I quite like it, simple without having to go completely bland, a bad habit in present day graphics design. I think they've made the most of the (probably) limited resources available, an implication of DQF that we are probably going to have to deal with for quite some time.
And hey, at least it wasn't celebrity-laden like 2011.

I think the main point of differentiation is that in that era, there was one ident you'd see 362 and a half days a year, and that ident was completely silent. The Christmas idents then, however simple, were markedly upbeat and jolly by comparison to the one you saw for the rest of the year.
Things have changed. Now the Christmas package is on air for one week short of a month, and what they replace is far from uninteresting (if now running a little thin...!). While not as gaudy as last year's the main problem with both for me is the lack of visual interest.
Well at least there heading in the right direction to improving the presentation at Christmas. The soundtrack is very festive and I like Duncan do get a Christmassy feeling when I hear it, quite good announcements from both the continuity team in Belfast and in London

Sound track is from that Bugsy Malone , the song You Give A Little Love...
Personally although they are one hundred times better than last years effort, it is unfortunately another 2D design and for me the more 3 Dimensional idents feel they have more life in them.
Also the idents are virtually identical to the endboards , which takes away a lot of the anticipation before they go live.
