With the continuing struggle of Daybreak, there have been one or two comments on here suggesting it would be an ideal time for Channel 4 to revive The Big Breakfast. I'm not sure whether I agree, but done properly I think it could do very well.

So it got me thinking, what would The BB look like if it was revived.

There's nothing pretty to look at yet. Rather strangely, I'm starting with the theme tune, and will go from there. I'll develop titles based on the theme once I've taken suggestions into account.

I think if The BB did return it would only work long term if they went back to the beginning, a bright, colourful and slightly rowdy magazine show, rather than the more comedy driven days of Johnny & Denise. Therefore I've returned to the original theme.

I've created a new intro, starting with a slower, calmer nod to the theme, to suggest an old friend is on its way back into your life, then things quickly get more up tempo before the famous whistle of the postman and a slightly beefed up sample of the original theme kicks in.

It's on Soundcloud (not sure if there's a way to embed it so just click on the link below)

I've been thinking that ITV's Sunday Side Up is very 'Big Breakfast' in attitude... I would have been good to see the BB evolve into something like that over time if it had remained on air.

Really liking that theme!

Turns out it's very hard to make Big Breakfast titles without actually filming some food. I may have to do that over the next week or so. In the meantime I've hashed up some of the old sequences just to provide some visuals

Funnily enough I spent some time today looking at some 10 year old mocks on the old Old Ford Lock Yahoo Group today - and needless to say this is miles better than those. Look forward to seeing how it might all develop - on the whole so far so good, but not sure about the slow first bar of the theme.

While looking at the various titles it only just occurred to me that the items of food/drink that fly into the house in the 1998 titles are the exact same items that are used in the 1992 titles (Tea, Milk, Eggs, Toast, Oranges). Have been a BB fan for years and yet I've never noticed. They must have deliberately decided this when remaking the titles.

Have created a little break sting. Stuck with the original concept of close ups of breakfast items but kept it simple and fresher. With new audio created from scratch, based on a few different versions of earlier break bumpers (plus a hint of 1996 which only hardcore fans would probably pick up)

It's probably your fault I'm current watching the first half hour of the first episode on Youtube. I loved the 1996 break stings - never made sense to me that they went to the effort of brand new stings (and a brand new concept), but kept the old fairly dated visuals in the titles.

Good start too - look very fresh and modern.

This is developing very nicely indeed. Are the visuals all filmed by yourself as well?

I'm liking the break stings, they would suit the show well for 2014. I'm not sure on the theme. The beginning starts off good but it starts to sound like a Christmas variant of the theme towards the end, which is not a bad thing i liked their Christmas variants of the theme they used to have.

As i found this thread, users of a certain BB fan forum would be familiar with my 3D versions of the house in recent years. I was thinking recently about doing the 2001 look with the current exterior look and seeing how production facilitates would fit in to the house as their old production unit has now been turned in to part of the Olympic park, but i'll create a separate thread for that when it's done.

I wish! Unfortunately I haven't had the time and whilst I do have pro-video equipment food is very difficult to light and shoot. I MAY try to film something soon, but in the meantime it's just stock footage I've bought in. Still takes forever to find appropriate footage and edit it properly though, so not exactly cheating Smile

JasonB, I understand the familiarity with the Christmas theme you're noticing. I deliberately mimicked the bass line of the Christmas theme around the postman's whistle. These are very much an ardent fan's mocks.

I've decided to give the titles a complete overhaul. I think it's very unlikely that if the show came back it would be at Lock Keepers Cottages. Therefore I've taken them out (also the house has changed beyond recognition since 2002 and I'm not about to hire a mini-chopper to recreate the fly-in).

The titles work better with the theme too, IMO.
