Split from BBC TWO old programmes, old pres? (October 2013)

Can't find a generic BBC Two thread, but the 8pm junction just fell apart quite spectacularly. Black and silence out of the Hairy Bikers (the ECP worked), followed by the breakdown caption (with announcements and music) and into the next programme off the back of the breakdown caption.

No faults on BBC Two Wales except joining the programme a few seconds late. Is that because the network SD channel is still run separately?

It's because Wales has its own presentation suite that covers up Network's junction with their own trails.

If you're saying that Wales joined the programme late that suggests that network may have run the programme early, pressed play as soon as they had it ready rather than at the scheduled time.

Here's what happened on network

I switched to Wales SD when the HD version failed and they were still running (local) trails. Then they had the normal ident/intro. From the network, I can see they never got to that point.

Is it me or do they change the font on that caption every time there's a breakdown?

Huh? That's the same font BBC2 always uses.

I think the layout and phrasing in that example is slightly less terrible than usual.

*But* caps of this Blade slide please.

By way of comparison, here's one from April this year

They've reduced the amount of text on the slide, removing the bit about returning to the programme as soon as possible. Perhaps because a large proportion of the occasions when the slide is seen are when a junction goes wrong or a programme fails to start rather than a programme falling off air.

Arguably something more like "We are sorry for this break. Normal programmes will continue as soon as possible" would be a better catch-all as not every break in programmes is for a technical fault (eg the One Show fire alarm incident)

That white logo isn't looking any better.

The slides aren't looking any better.

The ECP still looks like something which wouldn't even get one star here.

This is the state of (some) BBC presentation in 2013.

2:02 in on that clip is quite amusing.

Perhaps Red Bee need to work on their training for their announcers. Presumably in both those clips, the announcer had a script already worked out to introduce the next programme - I'm not saying I'd do any better, but I'd hope that a professional voiceover wouldn't be knocked off their stride so much that they couldn't ad lib their way into what's written on the bit of paper in front of them.
