This may have been mentioned in other threads but, with the move to New Broadcasting House, is it time for a new opening theme for BBC News? The current opening music has been used/rehashed constantly since 1999 and in my opinion is now sounding a little tired. In that same time ITN has had no less than five title changes. The move to NBH in my opinion constitutes a new start, what do you guys think?

As much as I agree with you that the overall look has become tired, I don't think the move to NBH was the time to change things. I think the focus for them at that time was continuity rather than complete change. I imagine a revamp will occur in the next 2 or 3 years.

Lets hope it doesnt last 5 Years like the last rebrand

Which tells you all you need to know about the struggling ITV News brand.

Indeed the disconnect between the general public and this forum seems to grow bigger every day.
See also the Sky News presentation thread.
No, I don't believe that the current title music needs time for change. I think that it could be updated but the Beeps theme is probably one of the most identifiable pieces of news music around the world.
Yes the red globe is quite old but just because it's old doesn't mean its tired. The old titles from TVC were quite tired. But I think the new updated HD Opening Sequence is much clearer vivid and nicer and don't believe it's time for a change. You mention ITV News there - constant rebrands doesn't mean good in fact it means the opposite. It essentially means that the brand is weak and they keep trying to make it stronger.
I think that the BBC News Music could last for at least a decade more with different refreshes as it is distinguishable, meets the brief and not out of date. The titles could probably do with a new titles in about 5 years time.
And no the NBH move would have been a terrible time to rebrand not least that the 2008 rebrand was based on what would happen at NBH mainly through the N6/TC7 Background but also the gradual move means that it would either end up with WN adopting the new look after moving in and NC having adopting it two months early, WN waiting two months for the new look which would be stupid as they'dd have to come up with new graphics anyway or have a mix match particularly on overnights.

Well, obviously. We are television presentation enthusiasts. By nature we, mostly, like to see new ideas and branding after things have remained the same for so long.
Maybe you could further elaborate on your points and explain why you would not like to see the BBC News branding changed, like others have done?
I don't like all these assertions that the frequency of ITV News's rebrands constitutes a weak brand.
Actually, ITV News has the longest and strongest branding of all the news networks. The association with Big Ben, the Bongs, the Awakening theme tune has been a constant since 1967. The BBC beeps, colour palette and place names only date from 1999 - a mere baby when compared to ITV News.
People seem to be missing the point that ITV has kept these branding elements and tweaked them over the decades to suit changing tastes and I think they have done this extremely well on a tiny budget - the current ITV News branding is very clean, modern and is light years ahead of the BBC's dated branding.
And let's not forget that BBC News has had just as many rebrands/refreshes this century as ITV News. The first post-1999 refresh came in 2003, then 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2013. And many other programmes and channels have had tweaks in between - for instance you can add 2002 for BBC World.
So I think it's unfair to say that ITV News has had more rebrands and refreshes than BBC News as it's simply not true.

Why would we want to totally change one of the strongest and most iconic pieces of music and brand in the history of BBC News which is recognised around the globe.
It's globally recognised and trusted and helps reinforce the solid work that our journalists do day in and day out.
In these days of Operating System changes, people seem to want to change everything much more rapidly.
The current BBC News ensemble of idents, titles, themes and design, both graphical and physical has many years life in it yet. The only element that does need reviewing to me is the Weather, but that's a discussion for another time and thread.
Tbh, I think they're fine as they are. It's something that's been the same for a while now, so what's the point in it getting changed now, when it's very recognisable in my opinion.
They've got a brand, which I believe is a strong one..
The opening titles are still fresh to me, and overall I think it's fine, there would be no need for them to waste taxpayers money for a new theme/opening titles when there's no reason to change them:)
They've still got life in them yet, imo..
