Not a perfect replication, still missing a few elements like the shines. But, it's close Smile

Great! Can you share how-to for us?

Wait! Another idea. What if American ABC's national bulletins and ABC O&Os adopted Australian ABC's graphics?

I ended up using Adobe After Effects to create this!

Sounds tempting to show I recreated this.

I've never really seen the ABC American bulletin's, and for myself, they are very off-putting. All smack-in-your-face and yelling-over-themes. But it would be a nice idea!

Woah that's impressive

This newbie After Effects user would definitely love to see a how-to!

Brilliant. Can't tell the difference between it and the actual graphics (and I live in Aus!)

Yes, complete with Australian ABC's music!

Getting the Australian ABC Music is hard. All I have is the News 24 Correspondents Countdown theme, and the Closer Themes.

Brilliant. Can't tell the difference between it and the actual graphics (and I live in Aus!)

Those films within the boxes were intentional. This is actually designed for a project lead by one of my board-mates. He wanted to do Church News, and he wanted to use the ABC News graphics from 2005 and 2010. I showed him some of my portfolio, and he asked me to join in.

I could only recreate the 2010 theme, as that looked more easier than the 2005 theme. I wanted to make sure there was a unique taste to it, and since the actual titles from the ABC was just pictures, I thought some film might change things round a bit.

Some people have been interested to know how I have recreated this titleset.
For a while, I have been wanted to recreate the theme from ABC. This "Church News" project was the perfect excuse.

ABC1 is broadcast in 576i, but I like to maintain quality, so I chose 720p, which is in-line with ABC News 24 broadcast size. 25fps was used
since YouTube can't handle anything greater than roughly 23.975fps
, but 50fps can be used later for ultimate smoothness.

Like at ABC1 State bulletins (as of 2013), only these bulletins have a build-up before the iconic photoboards of the state. This part was the most easiest. I created several long rectangles, applied a gradient fill to the ends, where the edges where the lightest, added a "Bevel Alpha" with the shine focused on the longest, visible side, followed by a "Drop Shadow" with softness and about 75% opacity. The Y-postion was always fixed, a X-position was moving based on time. An Expression for the shape position is ideal.

The photoboards were much harder. These were broken into sections of 4. Each having 2 - 3 different pictures.
The original photos were added directly into the comp, and not pre-composed. This will explain by the "Bevel" variates greatly between the pictures. For the pictures to reveal in, a mask was used and transformed over time with keyframes, the towards the end of the comp, the pictures slid-out by adjusting the X-positon value and adjusting the acceleration of change. Each box was individual, and a very adjust process.
Note for next time: Pre-compose pictures with a large enough size for masking

Images in the background were darkened to give more depth, but a masked black solid was primarily used.

My workflow for the project was definatly not perfect, and mostly sloppy. It is likely I will be coming back to the Project and be wanting to change the pictures over. Pre-composing the pictures will allow me to easily replace the photo with affecting the position and dimension on the photoboard. It will also allow for consistency of elements like the Bevel and Shadow.
