I liked the original set much more than the dreadful thing on screen now, but they were right to tweak it because it was dark and depressing for that time in the morning. They just didn't do the right tweaks, although the hideous yellow blinds were definitely a mistake, they were much worse than a dark background and were to bright for that time in the morning! If it was an evening show there wouldn't have been an issue.

I've said it again and again but they need to take down the second wall and open the set back out whilst its summer. Its going in a skip in 2 months anyway so not sure why they're not bothering this year.

I echo the sentiments on many on this forum with regard's to the current Daybreak set. It's just cluttered, tacky and hideous. I know there are those who hate talking about set's and set revamps on this forum which I can fully understand, but Studio 7 is just dyer. Even though I liked the original set I do agree that changes had to be made. Some were needed for example using uplighters to brighten up the dark wooden wall was a step in the right direction along with more studio lighting.

However, the introduction of those horrible yellow custard blinds and large red sofa were major mistakes. If they had used a smaller red sofa (possibly two piece) and used the screens more effectively the set would have looked so much better. You could still get a cosier feel using the riverside view when it was bright outside.

I also totally agree with the last point I still don't know why they insist on having a second wall with the LED screens in the background. I know Cross Channel has confirmed there will be no changes until the re-launch. The set just looks like a dog's dinner and makes BBC Breakfast's new Salford set seem modern and bright in comparison(despite it's limitation's). It would look so much better if they removed the second wall and pulled back the screen's. I think using the natural daylight that is there when the programme start's is so much better.

If producer's think Daybreak's current set is good then I do not expect much from the revamp other than a more hideous set without the riverside view with pink, orange and yellow colours all mixed together Sad

Thank you, as the designer of the original set.

You're very welcome. It's such a shame the original design was dumped after such a short time.
Are you involved with the programme's relaunch later in the year?

Lorraine currently have loads of into and out of breaks, whilst Daybreak have 3 I think? And Lorraine can still do the Logo over the studio for breaks and after titles!

Just me who thinks that Lucy is better as a presenter?

Shes alright, shes got a bit of potential but still a long way to go yet.

Has Lorraine now moved to another studio for the summer? I caught a bit this morning and the studio seems very shadowy with quite poor lighting. Also I (unfortunately) managed to catch Richard Arnold for the first time. People on here saying it is toe curlingly embarrassing weren't giving it enough justice. Dan just stared at the floor throughout with a manic grin. If they're going to do that kind of innane fluff then it works much better on Lorraine where they have Ross King in LA. It's all a bit of a sickly love in at the minute.

Going to be interesting who the support presenters are, Aled will need covering as soon as October, for the entire month, as he's doing a pre-Daybreak arranged vocal tour then.

Just been advised that these concerts have been rescheduled to April 2013 ... So no potential disturbance to Aled Jones' settling in period.

Matt Barbet has announced on Twitter that it is his last week at CH5 news. In reply to someone asking where he was going he said that he would be presenting the "Newshour" on ITV Daybreak.

Hope the format doesn't mirror GMTV too much otherwise the past two years have been pretty pointless!

That's the whole point. Daybreak has been a disaster and they want to revert as much as possible without actually bringing the GMTV name back.

I do think they should've used the opportunity to have a go at something a bit more radical- anything will be better received than the original Daybreak and what is on air now but Daybreak's original incarnation has obviously put them off and the GMTV format is here to stay for a few more years. With Lorraine Kelly at the helm it should do pretty well and they know it because it's a safe bet.
