News 24 and World have special versions of their theme music made. When will it be used then? On a royal death, they use no music, and there's been no music on News24 today during the story - so when will they use these special pieces of music?
Does a story have to be less important to use music? Today's story was shocking and tragic, so music would be inappropriate. However, if they're saving the music for something important, it doesn't get much more important than today.
So will they ever use all this special stuff they've got made?
Certain people have distributed a BBC News 24 Sombre Ident on the net I believe.
This may have been commissioned along with other music for the launch of the network, I know of no plans to use it, and of no visuals to match it. Similarly, I know of no special titles or music for BBC One/Two bulletins. I think the view is, either you use music or you don't...
BBC World have a history of using sombre special music, but this is in the context of being a channel with programmes which begin and end on titles. It is a real difference between World and 24.

Maybe someone from the forum has it, as I did a search for it and Google's cache of TV Home shows this:
Yes there was a special version of The World Today titles played at 0500am. It just played over the headline pictures, with no voiceover, followed by the normal ident with THE WORLD TODAY
SPECIAL
written at the end.
Jamez will you be able to get these for Identz?

I can ask some people I know at BBC News, and I'm publicly asking now, as I know a few folk from the Beeb read this forum.
