Sunday 9th September 2001 was the last time a full length balloon ident was shown on BBC One to preceed the handover to News 24.

Only a handful of times previously has the balloons been shown full length, and I was wondering when (if at all) the kind channel directors in Cardiff and London are planning to give us ident fans one last glimpse of the balloon in all it's glory - it ain't got long to live now, and seeing a few more full idents from the collection in the early hours before N24 would be a nice treat!

Top of the list I would like to see in full length is:
English 6 - Felixstowe
English 12 - Docklands (does anything happen in this ident?)
Irish 3 - Lake & trees
Irish 8 - Grey Abbey
Scottish 3 - Lake & Mountains
Scottish 9 - Eilean Donan Castle
Welsh 9 - City Hall
Welsh 10 - Snowdonia

I have never seen English 12 beyond about 7 seconds... plus I think that's the only ident to use that particular jingle - isn't it?

Don't forget the junction on 1st January 2002 - full xmas ident (granted complete with CA) into a 86 second countdown.

I think English 12 is a shorter ident, like the Millenium Ident, I think it starts jumping back after 20-25 seconds.

I wouldn't have thought so, the balloon hardly moves anywhere. The 'jump-back' idents usually occur when the balloon is about to float out of shot.

The only thing I've noticed on English 12 is that the train moves!

What I want to know is why this is the only ident which uses this jingle!! (I've checked now and no other ident uses it)
This is the longest I've managed to capture before an announcer talks!

Your're right, it is the only ident which uses this soundtrack.
Download a 30 second version here:

Not for the internet, no.

I just that for Mark as a favour - I should have given him the link in a private email.

Not quite true, a lot of the idents jump back, but most you will see jumping back will be the ones that have more than one opening image. The millenium ident doesn't see the balloon moving out of shot before the jump-back, although it is a one-off ident.
