BBC1 Analogue here in Scotland this evening is showing all the news in glorious 16:9 widescreen - none of this 14:9 rubbish! It's great!!

Blimey moss, you really know how to put a dampner on the party!

Could be a mistake, but I bet half the nation who watches it are appreciating it being in this format.

Bet they're not! They're probably all thinking 'where's half my picture gone?!' and ringing the BBC to complain. They don't understand that 16:9 letterbox shows you more of the picture than 14:9 or 4:3.

Well, thought I'd add it looks very nice on my 16:9 telly here - and it's still on now - we just got the ident in widescreen and now Question of Sport is in full 16:9 too.

Must look awful on 4:3 TVs though.

I know very few 4:3 viewers who want their footage in 16:9. Everyone I know on digital watching on a 4:3 set has centre cut out cos they can't stand letterbox. Most 4:3 people dislike black bars which is why its only 14:9 on analogue and why digital has a 4:3 mode. if the 4:3 mode wasn't on digital, you bet there would be complaints.

Well, I watch digital in letterbox mode and I prefer it that way! As I don't have a widescreen set, I think this is the best way to watch digital programmes!

Yes, but most people don't like it that way. Most people would rather fill their set than see all of the picture and have thick black bars. Even I think they are unsightly. 16:9 is fine on a w/s set, but on a 4:3 set it looks awful IMO. If people want to watch in full letterbox, get digital. That's what it's for. Can't see why people are that bothered about full widescreen on analogue, it's days are numbered anyway.

Same as me - I can't stand full 4:3 on a 4:3 TV - its OK on analogue, but on SKY its horrible!
