Is footage of Blockbusters really that hard to source? Both BBC News and BBC South East Today have used clips of Blockbusters taken from YouTube (complete with Challenge DOG). BBC South East Today at least showed it 4:3 so it didn't look as bad as the national version.

The pictures were not credited to Central, Challenge or even YouTube.

All tapes are still around and are in central vaults , maybe there could not be arsed or never had enough time?

ITV News showed a lovely tribute just now, using a mixture of Challenge clips and original clips credited to ITV Studios. Which reminded me of something silly. When I was little, our next door neighbour was a widower called Bob. I never saw him once in the whole time we lived there, and the only other man I knew of called Bob was Bob Holness. So for about two years of my childhood, I thought our neighbour must be the man off Blockbusters.

Nice continuity announcement leading into Blockbusters on Challenge, shame about the choice of ident.

Just before Blockbusters the Challenge CA said "Now we remember Bob Holness, who sadly passed away today. Our thoughts are with his family and friends". They didn't play a snippet of Baker Street as a tribute.

It depends what you count as a 'celebrity':
Harry Fowler, Eve Arnold, Kerry McGregor, Gary Ablett, Bob Weston all beat him to it

Yes, it's far cheaper. easier and quicker just to get them from the internet or off air from Challenge than order up clips from ITN Source, especially as they wouldn't be readily available like lots of their news footage. They'd have to be fetched from the archive in Leeds and line fed.

Sometimes one of the broadcasters will dig out and put together a little compilation of clips for other broadcasters to show, it's easier than fielding phone calls from everyone

It's lazy. ITV News used a woefully low quality clip from Call My Bluff which had clearly been lifted from YouTube.
