I adore the ending. I think that the BBC News Channel needs a stronger end like world news and that would fit perfectly. Yet again, another brilliant mock. Keep up the good work!

It's brilliant!

@James, I remember BBC News 24, had a very very subtle distinct musical tag like BBC World's...it's most prominent in the original 1999 and 2003 countdowns and also the 1999 News 24 Opening ident....

Yeah your correct. It's A shame they dropped it as BBC World still had its own music tag.

Seems like they gave up pretty quickly with the audio branding News 24 became rapidly messy, BBC World kept the branding integrity all until 'BBC World News' ruined it, the audio tag was and I guess still is used in almost all branded content... BBC News 24, never seemed to even bother to use voiced over idents as transition into programs... somewhat casual and unprofessional in contrast with BBC World... All these little things add up... now BBC News Channel, feels like it is completely run from behind that newsdesk.... Wink

Apologies for stealing the thread... well done for keeping the Tag in the mock!

The bit in the last six seconds of the 99 countdown? That was always my favourite part. Smile

One thing I really dislike about the current countdowns is the ident tacked on at the end though, I simply feel its so plodding. Given that the hallmark of the BBC News countdowns is they get faster and punchier as they get close to 00 it seems bizarre that the ident then takes so long to form up. I just get the feeling it should be near instant (as in within half a second form up).

Brilliant as always!

Whilst I think the rest of the mock is brilliant, I'm not a great fan of the ending sting, where the BBC World News logo comes up. It feels, to me, like the sting has been added on, and sounds dis-jointed. Otherwise, it's an amazing mock.

I do like your versions of the David Lowe music and this is an improvement on some of your previous work. Obviously, it doesn't live up to the real thing but it's pretty damn close!

One thing I would say is it doesn't have a strong enough baseline towards the end - it all sounds very treble to me. Perhaps that could be a way to improve.

I also agree that the ending isn't brilliant but that's simply because that's the way the BBC World News countdown works. News 24's current countdown is better because it actually ends on zero.

What program do you use?

^Love the speech bubbles on this one at the end. BEAT THAT KYLIE!

I used Apple Garageband 2 for this countdown - I now have Garageband '11, which gives you a lot more options on instruments and settings, although i have no plans to do another BBC Countdown, at least not until 2012.

As per comments - I wanted my audio to end on zero because there are so many people who have criticised the fact that the current World News countdown does not do that. So i wanted to go back to the idea, that was introduced in the 2005 BBC World countdown, of having a few seconds of extra music.

So if it feels tacked on, its because it is.

Musically, nothing is "tacked on", the 3 chord motif features heavily through the last 30s, in place of the original World Motif. The thing I feel makes it sound disjointed is the 1999 ending sound that I put in the last 6 seconds.

When that's removed, the countdown flows straight into the ident.
I'll try and post a sample of the countdown without the 99 motif so you can have a listen.

Thanks again for all the comments Very Happy

I don't like the ident bit on the end (but then I don't like it with the current countdowns either!). Also I think all the crashing around the 25-20 second mark is a little bit messy.

Other than that a very good cretion, I really like it Smile
