BBC School Report becomes first live TV Broadcast from new MediaCityUK Studios

BBC News School Report is making history on Thursday (March 24) with the first ever live television broadcast from the brand new studio complex at MediaCityUK.

Over 100 schoolchildren from across the North West and Yorkshire will work for the day from The Studios at MediaCityUK to produce a live bulletin to a national deadline of 2pm. The national TV channel for BBC School Report will be directed from the studio gallery in Salford (09.00-16.00) and will be the first live TV broadcast from the site. The television service will be on red button and web services and provide inserts into other BBC programmes.

..................

BBC News School Report is a BBC news project which works across the UK to help pupils aged 11 to 14 make their own news reports and broadcast them to a real audience. This year the project has been working with around 800 schools who will all broadcast their news to a national deadline of 2pm on the 24 March, when there will be seven hours of live TV and radio coverage through the School Report website and red button.

...which reminds me - I stumbled across this while nostalgically gazing through old idents on YouTube yesterday... is this BBC News School Report title sequence genuine? It's so awful that I can actually believe it might be real.

Looks of the standard that passes for special titles and in-programme graphics nowadays, unfortunately.

It actually was, and was sent to participating schools on CD along with the background and botched astons for use on their own reports. Vile is the word.

Just watching on red button, looks like they're using N9 as usual too.

Looks like the Salford bits are the foyer of a building rather than a studio as such.

On North West Tonight they showed a desk similar to the national and new regional desks (with the grey panels at the side and the red in the centre). Reckon they'll leave it there now for North West Tonight when they move in? I hope so because then it looks like we'll keep a desk rather than ending up with a Midlands Today-style sofa.

IMO the building on the left looks nice, however the two tall ones on the right just look old and horrid.

They also slagged the Museum of Liverpool though which I think is lovely.

Also Lime Grove was famously an absolute dump which was falling to bits, stank to high heaven and everyone got lost no matter how many times they went there, but everyone who worked there had fond memories of it and it produced some of the most famous and popular telly ever. So who cares what the outside is like?

Also, it's not a BBC building.

On that subject, where was the building used in 'The Hour' for BBC Lime Grove, and how authentic were the interior shots ?

I thought the studio was far too 'light and airy', they're not like that now, let alone in the late 1950s !
