Natasha Kaplinsky will lose more than £100,000 in pay for becoming a mother.

The new face of Channel Five news will not receive a penny in maternity pay because she was hired as a freelance.

I don't know the exact ins and outs of freelance and so on though.

Because the Mail is the most reliable source ever.

They're probably correct that she wouldn't receive maternity pay, though, as she's on a specific contract rather than in employment.

Equally Phil Lavelle was freelance until recently, appearing as a presenter and reporter on Five News and also filing reports for the BBC. He's now been taken on as a reporter for BBC Breakfast and as such isn't freelancing. However, I doubt Lavelle will get paid holiday or illness pay, a BBC pension or paternity leave. Contractors are only covered by so much employment law.

Danslink, Emma Crosby would be an awful choice. She didn't work on GMTV because she isn't particularly mainstream - a well spoken former business anchor and correspondent more suited to hard hitting news, interviews and analysis than talking to celebrities about their latest reality TV series. Five would be just as bad.

If anything, Emma's best hope is on ITV News, BBC News or back to Sky News.

Maybe Five News should become double-headed. Matt Barbet and a yet-to-be-named female presenter. Someone preferrably new though. Andrea Benfield? She was alright on GMTV this week. They could then share further bulletins.

Natasha has basically taken the pee out of Five since she joined. A mega pay deal then dropped the bomb six weeks in saying she was pregnant. Now a few years down the line still off on maternity again. What company would want to pay her huge salaries if she was hardly ever there even it was for having a baby.

Five should drop her asap.

Yes, how dare she have a baby!

According to today's Daily Fail, Ian Wright has been dropped from Live...Five for reportedly "refusing to promote Don't Stop Believing" during the show.

There's nothing wrong with people taking maternity leave, of course, and whether she was actually paid anything more than the statutory amount during her absences is surely a matter for her agent and Sky/C5 rather than public discussion.

However, she was employed as a specific 'new face of Five News', but hasn't really been around enough to make that work as a way of effectively increasing the profile of their news bulletins.

I'm sure La Kaplinsky won't have a problem finding a placement elsewhere if Sky/C5 decide not to renew her contract later this year.

It's going to continue with just Kate Walsh and Jayne Middlemiss

Presented by Kate Walsh and surprise surprise, DONNA AIR today.

Apparently Jayne is on "holiday". Not sure if I'm buying that. :S

Donna Air hasn't changed much. I remember her and Richard Blackwood together, i think it was Total Request or something similar to TRL on MTV.

Err why? I mean I'd understand if there were rumours or leads about her being sacked/leaving, but there aren't. I'm going to give Channel 5 the benefit of the doubt here.

Very coincidental that once Ina Wright is sacked, Jayne Middlemiss isn't in work the next day. She probably is on holiday but you never know... she isn't exactly a fan-favourite and her accent is really grating.

Slightly off topic but has Jayne Middlemiss ever had any long term regular work? (I can only think of TOTP!)

Didn't she do one of these reality shows a few years back?
