Didn't ITV/Granada have to do quite a lot of work on the Corrie back lot to cope with 16:9? I don't think EastEnders have done huge amounts since the 80s on Albert Square - that might explain the different approaches?

Well the Corrie set has been expanded at least twice?

once in 1988 and again 2005?

just found some info on the eldorador set and some videos on youtube, some viewers are a bit dim as one has posted, presuably after seeing the 2007 clip of the eldorado set, that the set was demolished years ago when the programme was axed Confused

here's a video from 2007 of something which was demolished in 1994 Rolling Eyes

anyway the corry set does look a bit narrow on roasamund street as when the terrace was built in 1982 they never intended to film round the corner, in fact the factory was a very narrow façade, whereas the community center oddly enough seems to have a side to it facfing the viaduct which was never used.

No prizes for guessing whereabouts on (Google) Earth this soap set is. In real-life, it's known as Pin Oak Court . . .

I visited the Eldorado set in October 2008, just a few days before that article was published, and have to say that the article is highly misleading. Most parts of the complex had been very well looked after and I saw groundsmen doing odd jobs and gardening here and there. The pool which the reporter says has "turned green and is being used by ducks" was actually purposely converted into an attractive ornamental pond feature. I certainly didn't see any beer cans strewn about the place. I think the reporter completely invented the idea that "local teenagers hang around the area"; it's a gated complex with a reception office and security guard on the front gate, and it's located way up in the hills and only accessible by car.

Check out this fan site for some pics of the set in 2007:
http://www.losbarcos.org.uk (Click on 'Gallery' down the left menu, then 'The Set' from the top menu. As you'll see, it's in very good shape).

More recently it's been turned into a specialist holiday resort for disabled people, which I think is a fantastic use for the place:

It's particularly nice to see this pic on their site which shows life and atmosphere injected back into the town square. I hope their venture thrives.

It was a very haunting and sad experience when I visited in 2008, and a crying shame to think that had it not been for the abysmal casting in the early days which attracted tabloid ridicule, it could have been as successful as EastEnders but with nice weather and a glamorous location.

The cast photo postcards on that fan site have an ancient "BBC1" logo on the bottom, looks like something that would have sat beneath the mirror globes. I wonder why they didn't use the figure "1" logo that was in use at the time?

Wasn't the figure "1" only used on-screen?

Letters I had from the BBC then had the rounded box logo.

How Neighbours manages to fit 5 + bedrooms in these houses is amazing! Laughing

The real resident's of Lyn Scully's house were recently looking for a housemate, the description of that house (Number 6 Pin Oak Court) consisted of 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

The 1990's '1' was used on off screen too, most notably on the side of TV Centre.

The rounded logo was replaced in about 1987 and was very gradually and sporadically introduced. the rounded one was still being used for the copyright caption in the early 90's .

The rounded form of 'BBC1' was only used onscreen briefly in the early 70s, seems bizarre how it would re-appear on Eldorado's publicity cards.... the ones for 'Life of Mars' or 'Ashes to Ashes' maybe

Specifically, up to New Year's Eve 1989, it changed when it became 1990 - presumably because MCMLXXXIX was too long to look good in the larger font they were now using, whereas MCMXC took up much less space.

Maid Marian notably used the rounded logo right up to the 1993 series (made 1992) - only the final, 1994 series has the slanty/underlined logo.

On the subject of the figure "1" - it was printed in the Radio Times every week up until 1997 too.
