I think the full show is on ITV catch-up.

Also, somebody has uploaded some early Denis Norden shows onto YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5IBqW6WDQo

I'm guessing the original current theme came into use on IBAOTN 6.

It did indeed! Very Happy

.... and was used for most editions thereafter.
IIRC, the only ones not to use it were 'Alright on the Night's All-Star Special' (2003) and' Alright on the Night's 50 Years of ITV '(2005).

For 'The Kids From....' (1994) and 'More Kids From....' (2002), there was a slightly revised version of the theme featuring a harmonica instead of the usual saxophone-led arrangement.

I think Griff did a good job, and his monolgues weren't too circumlocutive-- as Mr Norden's often were (IMO).

I do remember the audience roaring with laughter at Norden's excellent joke along the lines of, "I often drive down the M3 to Southampton, or rather sit in a traffic jam".

I'll concede he could funny, but occasionally I felt he rambled. To quote Ken Dodd: "Dennis Norden-- why do yodel when you talk?"

As for Phil and Fern, it was more their hysterical reaction to "dunking beef" that was the really funny bit for me. What often gets left out, is earlier they were talking about dunking things in tea, and Phil commented he didn't like dunking biscuits in tea-- hence the beef remark later.

Not as good as the Uranus clip in my view Laughing

Does anyone know whether last Saturday's show was a one off special, or will there be further episodes. The show isn't on next Saturday.

It was advertised as a "one off special", though I'm pretty sure they will, like they did, make new ones now and again.

It's always been a one-off filler programme airing occassionally. I believe someone said another is being filmed in November, which I'd imagine will either go out at Christmas or in the New Year.

After the first episode of IBAOTN aired in 1977 (to huge ratings), ITV wanted it to become a regular series. However, Denis Norden and the production team felt that (quite rightly too) the show wouldn't work in this format, and suggested instead that it should air as occasional one-off specials in order to maintain its quality. If it had been a regular series, they would soon have run out of clips to feature on the show and there was also the danger that it would have gone stale too quickly as well.

also didn't some of the clips not fit in with Alright and thats why Laughter file came about 14 years later in 1991?

Something like that. AOTN concentrated mostly on the out-takes which happened during film and programme making, although there were notable exceptions - the suggestive "Snake Charmer" one from Catchphrase which was actually transmitted on-air and made it on to Alright on the Night's Cockup Trip a few years later being a notable example.

Laughter File dealt more with the practical jokes, oddities, and spoofs as well as on-air blunders - for instance, the American news reporter who referred to Black Angus cows as 'Black and Gus cows'; the Carlton Draught beer advert from New Zealand which was shown on the final (13th) Laughter File; and an unfortunate incident on GMTV a few years ago when, during a timecheck, Fiona Phillips meant to say to Eamonn Holmes 'your clock has cocked it up' and instead came out with 'your cock has clocked it up'....
