Does anyone know what the official BBC line is on the disappearance of the weathercams on local news and national forecasts?

Probably because they're useless during these dark months?
Anyway, in the dark it can only be one of four things - still, rain, snow or fog - can't really see anything else. Look out the window might be more of a pro-active thing to do. Wink

I don't know that there is an official line, but you're right that they do seem to have fallen out of regular use. I've seen Coventry on Breakfast fairly recently along with one or two others, but they are not commonly used anymore it seems. Time was (in the old corporate look) when each centre had to have a weather camera and a Window-on-the-World camera for their regional TV programme. While one or two sites used the same shot for both (Southampton did I think), many had two separate feeds. While a lot of weather and wotw camera feeds still exist, some only end up as webcam feeds on the BBC local websites.
