More bad artefacting on today's splash; which also very cleverly doesn't fit an 800x600 frame!

Yeah but who uses 800x600? No-one.

My screen runs at 1600x1200 but I use 800x600 windows for IE. Plenty of people still using 15" CRTs @ 800x600 too. Plus web cafes and phoneboxes that are 800x600 or so.

And I probably still use 800 x 600 more than the other resolutions. I had that setting for a long time (for example on my previous 2 PCs) and as such, seemed to have become accustomed to it somewhat.

Back to the topic (not that I'm complaining about going off it) I think its quite appalling that on the main page of a big website like that of bbc.co.uk there are bad quality images like http://www.bbc.co.uk/home/images/main_promo/picture_promo/jam.jpg

Why do you want to look at 4 websites at once?

Here's another BBC image that's just awful. This time it's a gif advert found on Stoke-on-Trent's "The Sentinel" website (www.thisisthesentinel.co.uk):

I know that gifs aren't the best of formats, but surely the beeb could have come up with a better quality one than that - even better, if they want to get fancy with animations etc, use flash!

Well, you've said about that, but look on the homepage of Dr Who...

Dr Who

I thought it was a gif till I right-clicked on it.

If it was a deliberate effect then fair enough I suppose, but it would have looked more professional if they had used higher quality graphics.
