Not the case AIUI.

TC9 is the home to CBBC Channel Presentation, with TC2 now only producing XChange. In the old days, XChange, Newsround Digital, Nelly Nut and CBBC Channel presentation all came from TC2's gallery and bits of the studio floor (or production areas), but that changed last year, with Nelly Nut and Newsround Digital getting their own studios and galleries (Nelly's is now used for other stuff since it was canned). CBBC on One presentation moved from TC9 to TC10, and CBBC Channel Presentation moved from TC2 to TC9.

Not sure if TC9 or TC10 does BBC Prime CBBC stuff - but I'm pretty certain TC2 is now only staffed for XChange.

This is from Broadcast:

Quote:
As part of the plans, being put together by new head of TV news Peter Horrocks, Breakfast will share a studio with the 1pm, 6pm and 10pm newscasts, which will each receive a visual overhaul.

At the moment, Breakfast and Newsnight share a set, which needs to be re-dressed each night, costing over £1m a year, according to a senior news source.

The introduction of more virtual reality elements – currently used by ITV News – will also cut costs by making the basic set more versatile. Graphics are also likely to be streamlined in another money-saving measure.

Currently in the early stages of development, the relaunch will be introduced by next spring.

N6 is pretty versatile as is (and so, for that matter, is TC11). I think the problem is that there's a lot of rebuilding work required daily for TC7 that they want to cut out. I understood from the article that that's where the VR was likely to come into it.
Then again, Newsnight in a 'theatre of news" type studio? Can't really see it myself.

(of course, what Broadcast forgot is that TC7 is also home to Working Lunch and Newsround. While they do share some bits of set, that's four changes per day.)

Oh dear. Why can't they take a leaf out of Sky News' book and plump for real over VR? It's going to lack tacky and crap, just like ITV's current set.

I totally agree Jay. The BBC News VR set of the early 90s was innovative at the time, but it just wouldn't work now unless they wanted the nation's premier news broadcaster to look like a local cable channel in Australia. Embarassed Embarassed

ITV News made a really bad move with their fake "theatre of news". Sky have shown how it is supposed to be done if that's the presentation you want to aim for (and are prepared to spend the money)!

If BBC News really wants to go backwards then they only need to go 5 years into the past and reintroduce one of the best sets they had for the national news. On the other side of the studio (instead of the VR area) they could have a "soft area" for Breakfast & Newsnight which surely could be re-dressed with subtle lighting changes and a few "bits & pieces" at minimal cost.

Ah, but according to the BBC, News 24 is now the premier news outlet with the BBC One bulletins playing second fiddle. So as long as News 24 looks great, then that's OK!

As part of our shambolic News Interactive design team, you’ll produce a range of sub-standard graphics for breaking news and special events. It could mean working on anything from animations and information graphics, to maps and charts. You’ll also be responsible for explaining design issues to overpaid and underworked people in suits who won't have the slightest clue what you're on about.

Job description

You’ll need to combine a degree (which can be aquired by anyone, just about anywhere) in graphic or information design (or relevant experience in posting mocks on the Internet) with a very basic knowledge of news and current affairs.

Experience of visual story telling and information visualisation is essential, and you’ll be working alongside biased editorial, technical and interaction (the people who brought you the red button!) teams. You should also have the ability to mince into work with an oh-so-trendy iPod and record bag slung over your shoulder. You will have the ability to communicate transient and unworkable ideas to people of all levels of mental retardedness.

Applications to be received by 28 December.

Don't know where the VR idea has come from.

If you look hard around the BBC corporate site you may find some clues to the future look.
