Not bad, except the poor resolution and font used. 6/10

They're ok I guess. same as above, just the font and res make it look shoddy.

What font should i use then? (currently Gill Sans)

No. I don't like the BBC FOUR idents currently at the moment anyway.

They're ok, and I agree that the all the BBC channels should have a common look, but I don't particularly like the BBC Four endcards anyway, and the BBC is trying to move away from the Gill Sans font (which you have used). They're not bad though.

what font are they trying to bring in?

I might be wrong, but I believe they are trying to phase in Helvetica (this is what they currently use on 90% of news material, and they currently use a versions of it on the BBC One and BBC Four endcards). They toyed with Franklin Gothic for a while and some of that remains. The only channel still widely using Gill Sans is BBC Two, but even there it is dying out. Just in case you didn't know, the BBC Two "2" is in a heavy version of Gill Sans, so I don't know if that will change to another font. I hope not! Anyway, the biggest hurdle the Beeb have to overcome is their actual logo, as the B B C is in Gill Sans, as are the "One", "Two", "News", "Parliament" tags.

It did? Must have passed me by, any examples maybe?

Once in a while you catch a Now/Next card on BBC One which uses Franklin Gothic overlayed on the "guys-on-the-roof" ident. It doesn't pop up often, usually during mornings 10am-12pm. As I say it is quite rare.

That'd be BBC ONE then, though you were specifically talking about BBC News but why I have no idea. From what I know is that Helvetica/Swiss isn't stepping up to 'replace' Gill Sans, just it's in style and its your designer's go-to font family as it has a lot of variations so can be used pretty much anywhere.

Sorry for the confusion. You can (as I said) catch it on BBC One, although I have seen it on News 24. Apologies if I'm wrong, or is the BBC News 24 clock in Franklin Gothic?
