I'm finally pleased to announce the TV Forum Archive is available: http://www.tvforum.co.uk/archive, featuring topics from TV Home Forum and The Newsroom.

It was meant to be a 5-minute job to pull out archived posts from the database and just put them into static files but nothing's that easy! But it is now available with a search facility. Posts from the month two months ago are archived automatically (i.e. on the 1st April, all posts from January 2005 will be archived). December 2003's will appear later this week as a test to see if the early morning script works.

There are several issues - the topic/posts pages will only be available on newer browsers. Also the menu system sadly doesn't work with XML in Mozilla. This is down to Mozilla's restriction on JavaScript document.write().

The search facility also doesn't allow results viewed by post as yet. Searching the whole archive (some 10,000 files) is quite slow and no doubt pretty resource intensive so I'll try and speed that up by altering the files later this week. It's quite nifty for searching in-topic and per-forum-per-month though.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments on the section - the design (good enough for the rest of the site?), pages not being available or other odd quirks, please reply here or contact me personally. Looking around it at the moment, there's a few issues I've suddenly spotted but I can't fix those today but just want to finally launch this thing anyway!

Until I can be sure it's stable, archived topics will continue to be available in the normal way.

Cheers, Asa

NO! Razz

[/rude]

I like the dots, the orange colour and the drop-down menus a lot, but I hate the big bars underneath 'TV Home Forum' and 'The Newsroom' and I don't really like the dull blue colour, looks a bit stormy... to be honest it looks older than this current design Embarassed However it's not exactly awful and I very much doubt it would put me off visiting this place if it took on that design.

Can't comment on anything else because nothing is really working for me...

The topic pages don't work in Safari either

Nice work Asa! Is this a little sneak-peak of what the new looks going to be like? Smile

If you get a change could I suggest having a look at the drop down menus that were used on netscape devedge (before AOL pulled it). They were designed to work in IE and Mozilla.

I like the design quite a lot but I don't like the orange circles everywhere and I miss the blue background from here.

I prefer the look over there than here...

I'll get my coat.

No. I think the blue squares works. The orange blob is ok but I don't like the lines and circles it looks, just wrong.

I love the archive itself, but keep that design there, please.

I love the orange ball, and the banner, not so sure on the general layout. I prefer the layout, for the forum software better here. But loving the colour scheme, and banner. Wink

Well, I'm not a happy bunny.

I'm using Opera - the menu bar doesn't work properly (it's all scrunched together) and the search (or click on individual months) gives a random text list of topic titles and some random numbers/letters.

I like the design of it and i like the new orange logo. I think sticking to the same post layout as we have at the moment would be better though. Smile

I think the blue squares look on here would work, is that the LWT thing on the right hand side?

Looks nice and clean, layout works well in Mozilla.
