I always thought that the early rules meant that the television stations had to be named after vehicles.

The Ford Anglia, the Ford Granada, the Ford Thames van and, eventually, the Vauxhall Carlton!

So is ITV Granada now the only English and Wales region not to be named after the region. What I mean is, ITV Wales and ITV London is, but Granada isnt.
Meridian, Tyne Tees, Border, Yorkshire, Anglia, Meridian (and Granada)

Which ones are ex-Carlton and which are ex- Granada group companies?
Which ones have kept their names and which have been forced to change ? Confused

"So, pre-Granada Television, the word "Granada" wasn't a synonym for "North west England", and I feel that it still isn't.

Presuming that ITV drop the old company names in favour of geographic names in the future (e.g. "ITV Meridian" becomes "ITV South & South East" or whatever), one may find that some names are saved (e.g. "ITV Central" may possibly be considered suitable enough to not need to be renamed as "ITV Midlands"). But clearly "Granada" is no substitute for "North West" so has to go!

Good heavens above. What a thing to get worked up over!

F*CK OFF! Evil or Very Mad

I wasn't getting "worked up" over it! Rolling Eyes

I don't see how you've interpreted my post that way. Yes, I was pointing out how meaningless "Granada" is, but in no way have suggested that I'm personally "bothered" about the fact, or that it keeps me from my sleep, or something! Rolling Eyes

My post does not suggest that, nor is that the case, you tw*t.

You may be "woman", "invincible!", and "tired"; but you are also astonishingly rude and blunt.

That's the second time I've read you blurting out, "F*ck off", and its completely unneccessary, *especially* directed at Neil.

I think that's quite enough.

Well, actually, people jumping on my (or anyone's) back with comments like Neil's "don't get worked up" (or whatever he said) is a bit "rude and blunt" itself!

Neil chiding me over my post does not constitute Neil saying anything about TV/the thread topic, so in that sense is an invalid contribution to the thread.

If people are gonna leave posts that purely jump on my (or anyone's) back, but don't also contain any TV-related content, are you really surprised that it gets my (or whoever's) back up?

If I get all "f*ck off"-minded, it's not without reason.

And what's that about "... especially at Neil"? I don't care who the poster was (okay so it happened to be Neil, so what?) - the point was I took exception to being chided.

I have no permenant "problem with" him (or anyone).

I would like to be able to talk about just TV in my next post.

Do you mean like:

Unless your quibble was that I should refer to pre-1991 Midlands Today as coming from "Pebble Mill". If that was your quibble, then F*CK OFF!

Which you followed up with:

I think it would be better if you argue your case without telling people to "F-off". That's what I was objecting to.

i fear the community is on a slippery slope. first martin anderson starts posting rude fantasies and what not - followed up with the photo of him naked Confused ... and now this.

we are a happy bunch over in the midlands thread, so i was *stunned* to read a certain person use an expletive, there really is no need.

*puts a bar of soap onto shopping list*

you have been warned, all of you, although i'm not sure household soap will be very effective in martins case Laughing Laughing
