Do many people still tape programmes (in one way or another - Sky+ etc) nowadays?

I've been taping Home & Away ever since I got back to uni because often I'm never back in my flat till at least 6.30pm. I do actually prefer watching the show slightly later on in the evening anyway so taping it is perfect for me.

I tape a lot of programmes regularly because I don't get home from work until after 10pm.

Once you've got used to being able to pause and rewind tv though, you don't want to go back. It's the future!

I'd love a Sky+ box but they're still so damn expensive. I'm getting a swish new PC in a couple of weeks that is essentially a media centre box and should allow me to burn to DVD for my DVD player or watch on the glorious 19" screen. I just can't be bothered to program my VCR anymore! Saying that, at least Sky+ allows interactive and multi channel recording. Would be a godsend, as I have to give up Sky on Friday nights to my mum who watches five!

It really is great, you should really consider it. I know it's a bit of a cliche, but it really does change the way you watch TV. I'd wait until the new 160Gb boxes come out at the end of the month though, made by Thomson.

I thought they were doing them for £99 including installation at the moment, but I might be wrong. I don't agree with satellite dishes so I bought a TiVo on eBay. Smile

This already happens albeit in a limited form - check out Channel Fours coverage of cricket, and when they return from a 20 second break, the sponsors logo appears on the screen with the scorecard.

no I wouldn't agree with that. What that is is the sponsorship sting and back from break sting in miniture. C4 Cricket cut straight (often cutting adverts in half to do so) so they don't have time to show either of these normally.

With regards to Simon's point about the advertising being "forced" I'd have to agree. There's a difference between having adverts on a show which you can choose to watch (turning over or going to make tea, go to toilet) and adverts that you must watch. ITV is blatently talking rubbish because everyone I know either
1 - speeds through adverts on tapes they've taped while away from that channel or
2 - when they are recording and watching a show they often pause the recording between the parts of the show.

Surely advertisers take into account the fast-forward factor when buying air-time - and ratings generally suggest the vast majority of TV is watched live.

Just as those advertising in a magazine would consider most people just turn the page!
