I see Tuesday's episode only got 6.2 million viewers and 30% share, against Emmerdale's 8.1 and 41.5%.

Whilst the televisual atrocity that is EastEnders shouldn't be understated, it is also worth noting that Emmerdale was particularly fantastic on Tuesday.

I couldn't have broken away from that one hour special if I had tried.

Lowest ever ratings for EE on Tuesday, but I didn't think the Emmerdale special was anywhere near as good as the earlier hour-long specials where Paul Marsden was killed off and Jack shot.

Guns and deaths are always going to draw an audience soap-wise, but Emmerdale's real strength on Tuesday was the character driven story of Diane, Val, Rodney and Jack.
