So does the winner get a contract?

Speaking of Contracts, has anyone actually heard of last years Pop Idol winner? I can't even remember her name!!

The winner is signed to BMG.

I guess the format will be similar to Popstars: The Rivals, with the live shows alternating between 16-24 / 25+ / Groups until we have a winner in each category, although the winner will be confirmed in a viewer's vote.

Agree that more performances would have been nice - especially the good ones. Actually, the Xtra Factor seemed better for this.

Also, I think it be better if the three groups were Solo, Duo and Groups.

On This Morning it's been confirmed that the final stage of the programme will have nine acts - three in each category.

Also, no confirmation on how the final stages will work - it's likely to be similar to Pop Idol, but alternatively their could be a situation where one act in each group would qualify for the final - but this is from the X Factor website ( itv.com/xfactor )- and some of them will be moving in with The Osbournes!

X-cruciating! The good, the bad and the ones you can only watch through squinted eyes. You think you’ve seen it all? Think again. Anyone and everyone can audition for The X Factor. It’s open to 3 categories; Under 25’s, Over 25’s & Vocal Groups, and you really ought to see what comes out of the woodwork.

X-treme! This is no ordinary talent contest. It’s as much a battle of the judges as it is for the contestants. At Boot Camp it’s revealed, for the first time, which judge will mentor which category. Kept secret from each other, the judges assemble a team of ‘people’ to help them decide who’s got it and who doesn’t…until their Boot Camp group is whittled to just FIVE.

X-posed! The battle draws near. By this stage each judge takes the remaining 5 from their given category and takes them home (Heaven help them!). Who will be taking tea with the Osbournes, lording it up in Simon’s jacuzzi and meeting Irish Pedigree Pop at Louis’ pad? No-one – because it’s time to knuckle down and work until there’s just 3 left in each category.

X-ceptional! From an unprecedented 50,000 auditionees only 3 from each category remain. Let the battle commence. Now that the judges have decided who’s worth the risking their reputation on, you get the deciding say. Watch the live performances and vote for the ultimate winner. A singer under 25? Over 25? Or will a new group take centre stage? Who has got The X Factor?

She's x-rated. If she spelt her name Charon it would be nearer the mark.

Any truth in the rumour that Mice Young is on next weeks show as an un-convincing comedy impressionist/ impersonator ? Smile

Pop Idol mogul sues Simon Cowell

Music mogul Simon Fuller has launched legal action against TV host Simon Cowell,
claiming his X Factor ITV1 show copies his Pop Idol format.

Fuller's company 19 TV, which created Pop Idol and American Idol, is taking action
against producer FremantleMedia, Cowell and his firms Simco and Syco.

"19 TV will be pressing for a speedy trial to resolve the matters
as swiftly as is possible," a 19 spokesman said.

So what's going to happen to Pop Idol 3? Is Simon not going to take part? Isn't it due to start next year?

I do like watching these shows, but with the possible exception of Will Young they have all produced fly-by-night / here today, gone tomorrow acts who have less success than even the biggest of cynics could have predicted. Hear'Say? Girls Aloud? And they were the more successful ones. One True Voice and Michelle McManus can only dream of being so successful. I don't know if they plan to release another Michelle single but I'd say she's long since missed the boat now.

And then there were the spinoffs. Liberty X? (OK so they had a couple of htis). G G Gareth Gates? Darius (I thought his songs were OK but he's been quiet for a while now). Phixx?!?? (Canned Laughter)

So, in conclusion, good to watch, but totally lacking in any credibility any more, and I'm sure many would argue it didn't have much to begin with! Still it won't stop me from watching it with a hangover every Sunday morning. Would be nice to see Ant & Dec though; I still see Kate as the "extra" presenter.

Girls Aloud are still going strong! They were on Radio 1 today, which must be a good sign. Will Young was the most successful out of all these talent shows, because he has raw talent. It takes time for talent like that to be found, and you're not always going to get it right or find the talent every time.
