I am a religious viewer of THE NEW STATESMEN on Paramount TV. Now normally they cut out the Yorkshire TV gold ident, but today they showed it, which was a shock for me because its the first time i've seen it full screen, and its one of the classic idents i've always wanted a full screen copy of.

Lucky for me, in the tradition of Sky, they are repeating it at 1am in the morning, so i will set my DVD recorder and hope they show it again.

But wow, what an ident Smile Makes you long for the old days don't it !?

Last time the New Statesman was on Paramount Comedy (last year I think) they did show the Liquid Gold YTV ident for seasons 1 and 2 of the New Statesman. By the time Season 3 originally aired, the Liquid Gold ident would have been dropped in favour of the ITV corporate look ident, IIRC it was the corporate endcap which ended this series.

I caught some of the New Statesman at the weekend in a relatives, unfortunately its' on Paramount 2, and NTL Ireland only carries Paramount Comedy itself! Go figure...

I think Paramount just air what they're given, as they're happy to show the YTV Liquid Gold froncap, sometime after frontcaps had been dropped on ITV, YTV still added them on, but by 1989 they were dropped. I was expecting it to see it the other night, but I didn't. Though you always expect they show the frontcaps on Minder and Robin's Nest, but they don't, but I think they've both been edited by Fremantle Media.

Just saw it.

Like Hollywood films, the way ITV programmes SHOULD start!

Funny thing is how Challenge TV saw neccessary to chop off the YTV ident to the opening of 3-2-1! Completely screws up the start where the chevron falls into Dusty Bin.

got a recording of it, shall capture it and upload it somewhere within the hour Wink

Good thing was, although it had a DOG on it, the entire area where the DOG was in the ident is black, so i can easily take that out Smile

When Paramount repeated the Central series "Girls On Top" a few years ago, they retained the Central frontcap.

When viewers enquiried why they left it on at the start of the programme, the reply was given that the tapes were received in that way and they decided to leave the Central frontcap on. Smile

And I totally agree with them. IMHO the frontcap is as important as the title sequence. Would they update a title sequence because the original one didn't fit with modern TV standards? No! So why should the frontcap go? It is essentally part of the title sequence really.

I recorded the YTV liquid gold ident last night. I watched it back today and was amazed! It's good that Paramount don't cut off frontcaps, and seeing that piece of YTV history again reminded me how good ITV used to be (ident-wise, of course). I'd rather have that ident on my television now rather than these celebrity idents.

Just seen it on Paramount 2 just then, OT there was a rather appropriate joke for the time in tonight's episode, where they're filiming parliament, treating it more like a musical, I quote from the director

"You've ballsed up our restricted practises, so we're ballsing up yours!" Very Happy

How appropriate!
