Following the news that both Emmerdale and Corrie are going out 6 or 7 times during the next few weeks I have set up a poll for people to vote on how many episodes a week the soaps on ITV should be screened.

Personally I would like both Corrie and Emmerdale to go back to 4 times a week, I find the 5/6 nights a week airings very hard to keep up with.

I also think 3 EPISODES of Corrie in one night is stupid, who the hell wants 3 episodes the same night, as much as I love the show its getting ridiculas now.

Enough is Enough ITV.

Heck - twice a week, I say. That's what it was up until a few years ago and it worked fine.

Where's the "0 Episodes" option?

One episode per night would not be too bad but two in one night is pointless and three is crazy. I bet not too many people will watch all three episodes of Corrie tomorrow.

It's getting stupid now. Bad enough Monday doubles when the 2nd isn't needed. But this week and next is ridiculous.

No more than three IMO.

Not only is it overkill for the viewers, but for the cast and crew who I'm sure would rather their workload was reduced a little.

If I was running ITV I'd be putting ratings winners on all the time, so from a business perspective 6 times a week is great - for viewers though, yes, it's overkill.

Look how quickly Millionaire lost its shine when they started to show it all the time.

Absolutely. Millionaire was terrific "event TV" when it first started and that's why people took the time to watch it. ITV certainly used it to guarantee millions of viewers against whatever the BBC showed and even got a reasonable 10m (ISTR) against EastEnders. Their trouble was overkill - the week-long runs and specials with celebrities, couples etc. was just too much and the viewers began to drift away. It seems to be the case that if something good is on all the time, people don't see the attraction, so don't go out of their way to watch.

ITV's reliance on Corrie and Emmerdale (perfectly decent programmes - I have nothing against them) just shows IMO how little else the channel has to offer these days.

This just shows that ITV have now given up on filling thir schedule with anything new & original, having to resort to 40 & 30 year old programs to fill upto 6 hours of their primetime slots. I'd vote for 0 if it was an option.

I bet you they will, most people in the UK are mad on soaps and they will make time to watch every episode even if that means taping them. Rolling Eyes

A friend of mine contacted Ofcom and they can do nothing. They say to contact the company! I agree with her about what's the point of having a regulator that doesn't regulate. It's all greed and unimaginitive. We all know Granada doesn't listen. They only way they will is for people to stop watching and hit them where it hurts.
