To be honest, the last time I watched Cartoon Network was when it was on analogue satellite, for free.

It used to be brilliant. All day long it would show mindless cartoons, all wonderfully animated in the chunky Cartoon Network style - The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Ed Edd and Eddy, Cow and Chicken...

Then something happened... and it just turned completely rubbish. DragonballZ, Gundam Wing, YuGiOh, Johnny Quest... I stopped watched, and soon after it became pay-tv.

I've flicked past it a few times on my the sky system of a friend, and it's usually showing some Japanese imports.

But why should there be adult adverts on it? You've got TVX for that.

there seems to be a pointless poll syndrome going around TVF at the moment.

Cartoon Network is a CHILDREN'S channel - therefore there is absolutely no need for adult adverts to be broadcast on it.

Would you like it if your kids were watching a children's channel and suddenly an advert for adult sex chat came on? probably not.

CN is defantly not 'cool' anymore.

There seems to be a rule at the moment that anything made before 1990 can't be shown on Cartoon Network, as they bumped things like Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry over to Boomerang a year or two back. In fact, I believe the oldest thing on Cartoon Network now is from 1995.

Hang on a mo...

First of all, CN (excluding those +1 variants) is now three networks: CN, Boomerang & Toonami (originally CNX)

Secondly, there is one 'new' show on Boomerang - The Duck Dodgers series

Thirdly, although there is a large amount of 'Japanese' (or often Japanese-inspired, or edited shows) on CN, you'll find that most of it got moved to Toonami (Toonami itself was a slot for these and other teen/action series originally on CN)

The problem with CN, is exactly the same as with most other broadcasters in the digital era. CN used to be only one network, now it is three, so the animation sausage factory is working overtime to fill the gaps in the schedule.

Agreed, it isn't as good as it was about five years ago, but you still find the occasional gem (well, I liked 'Grim & Evil' even if you lot didn't...)

I hardly ever watch Cartoon Network since the collapse of ITV Digital. I loved watching all the classic cartoons on that channel, such as Looney Tunes, Tom & jerry, Popeye, and Top Cat. The newer cartoons (such as Cow and Chicken, Dexter's Laboratory, and The Powderpuff Girls) didn't really interest me, but I was happy to see these cartoons sit side-by-side with the classics. I was really disappointed when most of the classic cartoons were transfererred to Boomerang, just before ITV Digital bit the dust. Sad I still have it on analogue cable, but I never liked watching the cartoons they show now, such as The Cramp Twins and Dragonball Z.

I'm quite happy that Boomerang will be on digital terrestrial TV very soon (I have subscribed to Top-Up TV), despite the fact that it will only broadcast between 05:00-12:00.

Cartoon Network used to be great. I used to wach it all the time. They used to have a lot of shows from different eras, right from the Looney Tunes through to the latest stuff like Courage. The schedule was full, there was a lot of programmes, and nothing was on more than 2 or 3 times a day. Now look at it- the older stuff has been shafted to Boomerang, the "action" stuff shatfted to Toonami (why these shows can't co-exist on CN & The main channel is beyond me) and even a lot of the older CN shows have gone. At the moment, the main show has only 7 programmes (with a extra 4 at night) shown 6 or 7 times a day and they're pretty much all recent. The older CN shows have gone, even a lot of the recent stuff (like Grim & Evil) has been pulled. Whenever CN start a new show, rather than include it with the other shows and reduce the showings, they pull one show from the schedule, usually the one that hasn't had new episodes for a while. The question is- Why? Why can'tt hey sort out their schedule? Even if they aren't showing the Boomerang & Toonami stuff (though IMO they should), they could still make a decent schedule by including the other CN cartoons lik Cow & Chicken, I Am Weasel, Johnny Bravo, 2 Stupid Dogs, courage etc... So why the hell are they sticking with the "we must only have a minority of recent shows shown ad nauseum" policy when they have the means to make a decent, vaired schedule? If I was 12 gain, I'dve got bored of the channel after 2 weeks. At the moment, Toonami & Boomerang have a better, more varied schedule than the main CN channel.
