I have noticed something odd regarding the BBC World News titles, what I have found is that any titles that are dynamically generated, when the main BBC NEWS bit comes on, it just fades in, while the one which is just used for summaries, the main BBC NEWS bit has a transparent like effect, then it fades in, if you know what I mean!

Everything else, including break titles, sports, business bumpers have this transparent like effect.

Also please, please News 24, let Business Today use the World Business Report astons!

Yeah, the pre-rendered titles and stings and the countdown all have this effect on the text and logos, where it sort of highlights black before fading to white, quite a nice touch.

I think Business Today HAS been using WBR graphics, at least some of the time I have seen it, and it didn't seem to be burned on any recorded content taken from WBR on BBC World an hour earlier.

Noticed on TV Ark as well, that the Live Coverage, and presumbely Breaking News PIDLE stings are different to the network sting used at the end of joint bulletins with News 24, unlike the last look where they were almost identical, the graphics are unique, it also uses a unqiue cut of the music, rather than the network sting. Example is on the TV Ark at http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/otherchannels/bbcworldc.html near the middle of the page.

I see, thanks for the info, as to Business Today, they used the WBR aston for a few shows, then went back to the default N24 scheme, but then sometimes uses the backup astons instead, to be honest you don't know what to expect!

A few pages back you were talking about virtual reality. The backdrop of the National News is a virtual newsroom... but how it is "put" there? Smile
Is it CSO? Or large screens? There's a video on the BBC's Behind-the-Scenes website, which shows Huw Edwards preparing for the programme. And throughout the video (which is seems to be recorded with a hand-held camera), the background is there, as if it was real. Was it modified during the post productions?

It's big projection screens. Here's what it looks like when the projectors are turned off.

it looks like there is a small rised up pathway or stage right behind the circle "stage"

There is a raised area in front of the projectors, at the same height as the circular dais the desk is mounted on. At either end of the rostrum there are full length mirrors that reflect the projected backdrop, making the studio look far bigger than it is.

The bacdrop is pre-recorded (and looped) as three separate video sources, which feed the three separate projectors. The projectors can be fed with different backdrops for other programmes - like Hardtalk, ExtraTime etc.

I always like how the side panels aren't actually red, but are lit up like that. I think it looks much this way as different programmes can have different intensities of red, the Ten having much darker lighting than the One for example. Very simple, yet very effective.

I also like how the Straight Talk set at Millbank is lit with a sort of pinky/red. Very nice. The small round desk used in the Straight Talk set is also rather sexy too.

On the News 24 set, they've done a good job of smartening up the Newsroom behind. Theres lots of little things to keep people interested, not only the illuminated rings suspended from the ceiling, but the red V shaped pathway painted up to the backing glass of the main News 24 set.

I notice they were using the moving camera again last night, why can't they be more consistent? I liked it when it stayed still until 6pm and then started flying around everywhere.

Do the editors change shifts with the presenters on News 24, because I've noticed that when it's Matthew and Jane they always have the moving camera, which makes me think that the decision is made by the editor, rather than it being a cross-channel decision.

It just depends on which technical director is in charge of vision - one TD does a nice sweeping camera movement during the half hour ident. Others do the same after the main titles etc.

I was close Wink Would it not look neater if they had a constant way of doing it, or like me do you think a bit of variation throughout the day is actually quite nice. I know if I was TD I'd want to add my personal stamp to the programme.
