Was that a new 'now and next' animation just used on BBC One after Neighbours, with the list of what other programmes are on BBC channels?

The new design came in just before Christmas. It just shows 'Now' by the way, not next.

I was expecting it to appear on BBC One but it didn't so I only caught the end of it on BBC Two.

This NOW thing has been a bit wasted. Whenever I see it, one of the three channels is:
BBC NEWS 24 - BBC NEWS

Hmmmm...doesn't say much about the amazing multi-channel BBC set-up.

It reminds all those people who aren't glued to it 21 hours a day ("well, it's really BBC News 21 because of the Breakfast simulcast") that the channel exists.

I've only seen News 24 feature a couple of times. I usually find that it's BBC One, BBC Two, CBBC/CBeebies/BBC Three/BBC Four. Once I even caught BBC Radio One on there. I think it's a good idea to include radio channels along with the tv channels.

They can feature any BBC services, including BBCi; it depends on the audience it's aimed at, as determined by the programme it's placed before or after.

Is the programme text typed in manually or is it linked to the automation system thing? I'm thinking that "BBC News" in the case of BBC News 24 screams the latter to me.

The menus are made days in advance, typed manually by someone from the published listings; BBC News 24's listings have always contained lots of "BBC News"s in a row. The announcer often gives details of the day's top story when voicing over one of these menus, though.
