Not sure if anybody has ever noticed The Big Breakfast Cafe in Belfast...

Yes, it's documented on YouTube:

Firstly the raw satellite feed (the channel owner apparently used to intercept the feed on a regular basis)

and the on air follow up:

Prepare to relive the traumatic experience of ZERO chemistry between Mark & Zoe.

feels very cringy worthy tbh. thankfully she improved as a presenter on live and kicking

The incident was covered (fairly well, actually) on a Channel 5 show the other night, about classic TV going wrong.

...In the footage used on the Channel 5 show, you hear what I presume is talkback and someone swearing (along the lines of "f***, go to Vanessa"), which I don't recall happening, then a cut back to Mark and Zoe's initial reaction to what's happened.

A few clips of Bob Monkhouse presenting The Big Breakfast on tonight's Channel 5 show about his career.

A nice montage of the 97/98 break stings accompanied by what sounds like the original summer 97 closing theme?

They did a really good job of revamping those - felt much fresher than the original incarnation and a shame they didn't use them to update the original titles at least when Zoe arrived to freshen them up a bit.

Also in the last few days Gwrych Castle have uploaded a clip of a kid going on The Big Breakfast as a "meddling kid" trying to save it. That kid went on to run the preservation trust and is doing just that.

Don't remember the "meddling kid" feature at all though.

Also some other full episodes from Denise’s second stint have appeared recently including the phone room before it became ‘the phone bunker’

Didn't he later put the show into Room 101?

Did channel 4 say when the black takeover day was actually happening? When it was announced it felt like 2021 was an eternity away!

They said Spring originally but there was a snippet in one of the Christmas TV guides which suggested it had been put back to autumn.

Still in two minds about that - I think Mo is a very good choice and if I was casting the show now I probably would cast Maya Jama as co-host and I think Allison Hammond would be superb in the "On the Bed" interview role - and honestly in both cases I've no real alternatives in mind.

However as a one-off I'd much rather it was a full on nostalgia fest with some of the original hosts - ideally a couple of hours with Chris and Gaby and then a couple of hours with Johnny and Denise, though the latters relationship did break down in recent years, but both seem to talk fondly of each other whenever they talk about the show.

Talking of the two generations colliding both Chris and Denise were on James Martin's Christmas Show so I did tape it to see if they mentioned the show. They did briefly when they were on air together, mainly saying they'd been discussing it off screen and just mentioning the house was up for sale. Chris seemed to talk about it as if the house has only been transformed from it's three cottage formation once the show had finished, saying it was now knocked through and "painted pink". Of course although it has been changed inside since the show ended apart from the changes in the windows the house generally looks the same as it did in 1998. I guess Chris was too busy hosting radio breakfast shows to really follow The Big Breakfast once he left though.

I agree she would, but would she be allowed to do so with her This Morning Commitments?

Well if it was a full on revival they'd have to poach her. If we come back to the real world of it being a one-off as she's doing things for the BBC she'd probably be able to as a one-off unless she's exclusive to ITV daytime and they consider breakfast to be daytime.

Yes, he did - he said he enjoyed doing the show but it was the getting up at 3am in the middle of December and having to drive into London in sub-zero temperatures that he really hated. They illustrated it with a clip of him with Zig and Zag doing Christmas Khazis (a great feature, inviting viewers to send in suitably-decorated toilet seats) during which he fiddled with his clipboard and contrived to undo the clip, and watched his entire script fall off and get completely out of order.

He did mention it once on his Radio One Breakfast Show though. And it's stuck in my head ever since.

It was the day after Channel 4 announced the relaunch with the 'interesting' pairing of Rick Adams and Sharron Davies. It was in all the tabloids the next day, and Chris was running through them in a link and mentioned the new presenter partnership and said something along the lines of "hey, I know I'm now on the radio against them, but I still love the show - but what on earth are they doing hiring Sharron Davies - are they going to turn it into a sports show?"
DE88 and Steve Williams gave kudos
