I remember in the early 2000s the version of Minnie Riperton’s ‘Loving You’ shown on music channels was an old 16mm print covered in audio scratches, to the point where when I hear the song now it’s odd not to hear them. Eventually they dubbed a clean digital copy of the audio over it.

That song just makes me think of one of the early South Park episodes where someone singing the high note on it sets off a bomb that blows up a donkey Laughing

Haven't seen that episode in 20 years though!

Likewise, I can't hear "Feels Like I'm in Love" by Kelly Marie or "My Old Piano" by Diana Ross without thinking of the ropey-quality copies of each promo as shown on VH1 Classic et al...

Love the transmitter information at the start of the 24/11/1988 episode.

Yes, I remember 96.0 going on air in Greater Belfast, it was nowhere near all of Northern Ireland as depicted in that map. It later moved to 99.7 (which was previously used for Police communications, iirc, although I could be wrong about that). 96.0 is now Radio 4 FM.

Wasn’t she unbilled in Radio Times, apparently replacing Mike Read?

That said, if he was unavailable you’d think they would have been able to find someone else from the Radio 1 roster. It seems like they were trying anything to get more female presenters at the moment, almost auditioning on air until they found someone they liked.

And Anthea was the best they could find...?!

Just stepping forward from 1988 to 2019- this year's TOTP Christmas Day edition has been confirmed for 11:35am on BBC One. I think I'm right in saying that this would be the first time ever that they've shown it in the morning. It's now well away from the old traditional slot of 2pm.

And the New Year's edition is on the midnight/early morning slot for the first time!
Damn, that's late!
