Just watching some coverage on Sky News of David Bowden in a purpose built wind tunnel, with him facing winds of upto 110 mph, it was like a dreadful ITV1 Saturday night programme on the lines of "Hurricane Celebrity". It is just another example of Sky News being tacky and distasteful when it comes to a serios story. Bowden actually used the line "that's 110 mph, Sky News takes back the record from Fox News - Great Britian has the record!!" I personally feel that at a time in the USA where people will loose their homes and maybe even some lives will be lost Sky News trivialising the story is out of order.

I can understand if as I'm sure it was originaly intended an interesting insight into a Hurricane that would be ok, but turning it into a competition between Fox and Sky News to see whose report can stand the longest with the fastest winds is very tacky.

Sorry, but I thought SKY News did a great job with David Bowden's piece - it was both informative and humorous and proves how good SKY News are at covering events like this.

I would far rather watch someone demonstrate the effects of severe winds on the human body than look at a dull graphic

Sounds quite funny. I don't think it's in bad taste at all.

BBC World i think have made their correspondants suffer the most; they had some bloke from an American Weather channel standing practically in the sea, backed up against the railing, with the camera crew standing a safer distance back.

News 24 have replayed the same interview quite a bit, it does have to be said.

It's nice to see this being a top story for a change instead of Iraq or Isreal.

I agree with the comment about the BBC putting their correspondents through the worst.

Poor Nick Bryant during the 6 O Clock News, He was being blown around and was trying to hold on for dear life. He even said that the camera was being held stable by two cameramen.

I wonder if he will be around for the Ten O Clock News or if the conditions will be too bad.

Anna Botting hosting a 'special programme' on the hurricane. David Chater doing the first report.

Do they always run the 'top-of-the-hour sequence after Littlejohn?

The hurricane monitoring type bloke speaking to Anna says there is a Holiday Inn falling into the sea. Confused

I disagree. Why it made top story on the 6 o clock news I have no idea. Excuse the pun, but the coverage has been blown out of all proportion!

I disagree with you there Larry. I find the news facinating. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yes, i find it more interesting and lets face it, important, people's lives are at stake, as well as economies - than some inquiry that is dragging on and on and on and on - Hutton will be in the news again next week, this is something new...something exciting!

ITV News Channel just been carrying MSNBC coverage - link with one correspondent who - as he told the audience - lost IFB (talkback) but would carry on talking anyway.
The ABC/Weather Channel correspondents have been having a tough time of it - they are the ones that BBC World/News 24 and BBC Three have been using quite a lot. Nick Bryant and Rob Watson are in the same location.
Tis worrying about the Holiday Inn - I think News 24 as well as Sky spoke to the CBS correspondent who is down there (a woman I forget her name).
There are arguments for and against leading on hurricane stories - we only tend to cover them when they are in America because they do have correspondents standing in the rain and the wind. Whereas there can be loads of deaths on islands and they hardly get reported because there are no pictures - but then that's TV News for you.
And I haven't seen Sky use their top of the hour sequence on the half hour before but maybe I haven't caught it - I'm sure c@t will be able to tell us as he is the skyguru

Well it's interesting, but doesn't deserve top story billing.

There was a similar storn off the east coast of Japan last week, didn't make the news.
