As spotted by MY83, there's a strange case of graphic 'borrowing' between ITV and Australia.
ITV used 'modern' fonts on their FA Cup football coverage in 1998 and 1999, although it's hard to find videos from their sports coverage in those years - even from the '98 World Cup which had different graphics. But ITV scorebars would've looked something similar to these:
1998:
Newcastle v Spurs, 11.04.1999
from videos by Elmswood48 (FA Cup Final 1998), TJS Sports (World Cup 1998) and Elmswood48 (Newcastle-Spurs 1999)
And this is where it gets "interesting"
St George v Melbourne, 26.09.1999

So maybe the ITV football graphics set was 'shared' in some way? With some differences - like the NRL broadcaster deciding "don't name both teams" on the graphic there. (Anti-Melbourne sentiment?!) As well as Channel Nine, it looks like Optus Television had this game.
Rugby union on ITV was slightly different – just a week later in the UK, the 1999 World Cup started, and the ITV scorebar was a bit posher for the upper class. A serif font
if the one blurry video is any guide.

In 1999, it seems it wasn't just ITV using silver and grey boxes for rugby content. In Aus, Channel 9's NRL Grand Final coverage had a very familiar (if unconventional) look to it for UK viewers.
