Tony Hall announced in his speech on the 50th anniversary of BBC Local Radio that they will no longer target just the over 50s, and in future it will be for 'everybody'. Whether they will be successful at attracting younger audiences I am rather sceptical about, however.

I imagine that's where the weekly BBC Introducing programmes come in

Seen that in a few local channel schedules and think it might be on Community Channel too - exactly the sort of national show that should be supplementing local content.

Understand if it's a question you may not wish to answer but out of interest how much does a series of that nature cost to produce?

There's some change from £10,000 per edition.

Missed the posts after mine. apropos whether BBC local radio can attract younger listeners, I suspect it will very much depend on where it is. In places like Merseyside & Greater Manchester, where localism is wholly compatible with pop - has in fact been boosted by pop, with accents if anything strengthening among younger speakers - I'd certainly give it a chance (maybe this is the idea of moving away from standardised playlists?). In non-metropolitan southern England, where I live, where localism is wholly incompatible with pop - has in fact been more or less destroyed by pop, with accents dying off at a rate of knots - I'd give it much less chance. Mainstream local press where I live has never said anything to me about my life, but that doesn't make the local "alternative" media any better (indeed, through its Corbynism the latter has in fact espoused one particular 1950s shire Tory prejudice - it should be obvious which one I mean - much more than the modern shire Tory media itself).

The model for how a *non-youth-targeted* radio station can attract a new generation of listeners who'd previously have considered it unbearably naff and irrelevant is, obviously, provided by Radio 2 around the turn of the century.

What's occurring with Made TV's Local News service? On the Birmingham franchise, there is the Made TV News - Birmingham, Made TV - Leeds, Made TV News - Liverpool and Made TV News - Tyne n Wear all in a row with the News/Weather presented by the same people!

On satellite, all local versions point to a single videostream of Made TV with a carousel of local news from each area from 5pm. Normal programming continues on Freeview in each area, although the news is pre-recorded from Leeds.

Thanks for the reply a516. Noticed there's a mix of Adverts from different franchises too. Thought the News programme was coming from Leeds when the Presenter kept saying 'we' within their bulletin. More cost cutting I guess...the News bulletins aren't bad presentation wise being fair.

Wonder if the Freeview feed will eventually be the same...with Local programming cut drastically...

The reason for the change is that the conditions of its broadcast licences don't cover Sky, only Freeview (and it costs a lot more to have individual Sky slots).

I can't help wondering who gave sign-off on Made's new station website format?
Clumsily 'designed' doesn't even feature Made's branding. There's no station schedule, catch-up is gone, no programme pages, etc.

It's just a small number of clips from the Big Daily.

Made made big progress after launch with programmes looking tighter, news being less 'events calendar-based' - starting to look like their need to cut cash is jeopardising the whole project now.

That'll be why That's and Estuary aren't there at all then.
