ITV got 6.11 million for Germany v England and 5.88 million for England v Netherlands on ITV on Saturday and Tuesday, so it was undoubtedly a success for them if it was on ITV4 you would get 1 to 2 million. ITV are showing at least 2 England games in Euro 2016 and show all England Qualifiers so they are the home of the England National Team so whilst I agree friendlies are not as important as competitive matches it is important ITV show the progression from friendlies to important matches. Plus at the minute ITV don't have much live football on their main channel after the loss of live Champions League & Europa League to BT Sport so they will want to show their England live on ITV regardless of it being a friendly.

Why couldn't those 6.11 million viewers find their way to ITV4? Remote controls do exist.

You could use that remote control to watch something on the dozens of other channels which weren't showing football at the time.

Anyway, this thread was moving on nicely before you returned so back to Barcelona. I do think this series has been so much better than last year with a few things dropped which weren't working (the Supercomputer in the shopping centre!) and bringing in some simple new elements like the Sofa Search and Who Shot Simon Cowell. The guest announcers have been better used this year too.

For goodness sake, drop it. It's so ignorant to want something moved to another channel just because you do not like it. I have no interest in football, but I accept others are interested in football.

I'm sure if you sent a strongly worded letter (and got your English teacher to check it) to ITV Studios in London, the management would definitely consider moving highly profitable football away from their flagship channel to make sure their usual, low rating schedule featuring Take Me Out goes ahead.

TV doesn't work that way.

Because there is an agreement with the football tournament organisers that means ITV4 transmissions have to vanish into a black hole that opens up as soon as somebody kicks the ball off the centre spot at the start of the game. There isn't very good reception in a black hole so that's why the games are on ITV and not ITV4, as the former has exceptional broadcast capability to broadcast through black holes that the latter doesn't for budget reasons. Not only that, everyone knows to press button "3" to get ITV. Does everyone know what number ITV4 is on Freeview?

It's all about audience reach and ad sales. ITV4 would be lucky to pull in a third of the ITV viewing figures. Reach = more viewers, higher advertiser rates = bigger payday for ITV. It also brings lots of ABC1 males to ITV a lucrative advertising sector and an audience difficult to reach these days following the loss of major football contracts.

Dalek your whole reasoning is that I don`t want to watch it so no one else should be allowed. I have yet to hear a logical reason to move the football and I have given you numerous reasons. Its the England National Team, ITV achieved higher ratings than usual, bigger advertising, only live football ITV have, it was organised by the German FA, appealing to wider audience and different audience which ITV have to cater for.

I also doubt viewers would be happy with an England match in SD only on Freeview, Freesat and Virgin Media.

If you're referring to ITV4 HD, Virgin Media have had that for a while now.
