I can see how he comes across that way on SNT; knowing his sense of humour, to me it's tongue-in-cheek, he's doing it in an ironic manner to ostensibly upstage A&D. On BGMT he's always self-effacing: For instance he always claims he only has one viewer, he emphasises that the show doesn't win awards and sets up contestants to belittle him -- plus constantly lets himself be the butt of Ant and Dec's jokes. I've always found him down-to-earth and modest in 'real life'-- lovely guy.

I've only watched this season and the last season of SNT, so I can't discern whether the show has gone downhill. However I appreciate the show; as others have said, it's a bit of fun.

As for Gino's "sheet" carry on from last week: I don't think it's any worse than half of what Officer Crabtree used to say on Allo Allo, which is frequently repeated pre-watershed!

I honestly don't know how anyone couldn't realise Stephen Mulhern's 'ego' is a recurring joke as opposed to an actual thing. It seems obvious to me that he's deliberately putting it on, especially having seen him on other shows where as you said he appears more self-depreciating.
The surprised family coming in seemed to lose them time, and they were tight for time thereafter, plus they couldn't run over a couple of minutes like they usually do, as the football already had a tight pre-match slot.

Stuff the football. The committee already makes things awkward as it is by scheduling matches in the evening. It's like they're deliberately trying to ruin the TV schedules. Why can't they schedule all matches for early or late afternoon instead when there's nothing on TV anyway? Not everybody likes football.

Well luckily for you they'll be about 47 Saturdays this year without football in primetime. In most countries there is nothing on Saturday night, and this match would have been scheduled to suit the German broadcaster. ITV may have preferred the football followed by SNT at 7.30, though ultimately the only things sacrificed from last night's schedule was a You've been Framed repeat and You're back in the Room.

Why should it be scheduled to just suit the Germans? What about us British people who don't like football and wanted to watch You're Back In The Room?
The Mirror reports that Channel 4 are developing a Saturday night show to rival the likes of Takeaway.... with Alan Carr and Noel Edmonds at the helm.

Wouldn't be anywhere near as successful as Saturday Night Takeaway. SNTA works so well because Ant & Dec are best friends in real life whereas Noel Edmonds and Alan Carr just seem like a random pairing.

What you're basically saying is sod the 70m or so Germans and the 60m in the UK - TV should be scheduled to suit you.

A record programme can be shown at any time - a live football match is shown when it kicks off. Do something else for the evening if you don't like it!

The football could be scheduled at 3pm instead. It doesn't have to be in the evening.

We could explain the sound commercial reasons for the decisions, tell you that broadcasters aren't just here to pander to your needs or just speculate that you're just trolling.

I'll leave it with "it's just tough".

I don't think any argument can be won when the core point of it is "I want to watch You're Back In The Room".

Like it or not broadcasters like the BBC and ITV have to cater for many different audiences from soaps to entertainment to sport so it's very selfish of people to complain just because a programme they want to watch is displaced for sport which happens once in a blue moon. ITV have X Factor on for 4 months, Britain's Got Talent for 2 months and Saturday Night Takeaway for 2 months and 1 football match moves things about which is organised by the German FA so they chose the kick off time and mass moaning happens.

This. This. This.

There is a level of entitlement and selfishness that is distinctly unappealing in some of these arguments. Yes - sometimes things are done for other people and not for us. We all pay licence fees and we all buy products advertised on commercial TV - we all pay for it, so we have to accept that sometimes other people get what feels like a better deal, just as on other occasions they see us getting the better deal.

If it was at 3pm, it couldn't be televised: live games aren't broadcast on a Saturday between 1445 and 1715, supposedly to protect attendances at lower league games.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't apply to international weekends.

Completely off topic, but not only does it only apply to specific weekends set by the national association (so for example in England, there were no blocked hours last Saturday, though there were in Scotland, Wales - where the hours are a bit different - and Northern Ireland), it also specifically excludes the senior international representative team, if they are scheduled to play anyway.

As it happens, because it was Easter weekend, no Football League matches were played as they ran programmes on Good Friday and Easter Monday instead.

They could have separate channels for sport like Sky. I believe ITV did in the past. Failing that, ITV1 could have moved it to ITV4 instead. It was only a friendly match anyway so it didn't count towards anything.

Why would any Football fans even want to watch the match anyway when it was only a friendly and didn't count towards anything?

Did it ever dawn on you how that didn't work out?
