If the match is finished it doesn't need to go anywhere.

Tennis fans may want to see analyst and whatnot. I don't think making them wait 4 or 5 minutes while they show the end of Coast would be the correct scheduling decision either.

By the way, another episode has just started on BBC Two.

They did just that. And even squeezed in the 90 second news, so EastEnders is starting at 20:19. And I'm waiting for an episode of Coast to finish now.

But at 20:00 I think they thought 10 minutes would be enough, I don't think they expected four match points to be saved.

Which is now exactly what is happening.

Madness. It benefits no one. I can't actually think of an example of a commercial broadcaster changing things at the last minute (even though we all knew what the BBC would do today in reality) just for ratings.

Really? I know nothing about tennis, I don't even understand the scoring system but somehow I knew it wasn't enough.

No they'd just ruin the match coverage by switching channels as it reaches its climax... *COUGH*ITV*COUGH*

Match point can creep up quite quickly, but can equally become drawn out if the opponent puts up a fight. I think the final game started at 19:59 and Murray had his first match point at around 20:04.

Correction: it was three match points saved, the fourth was the winner.

As I say, you may as well be speaking Cornish for all the sense it makes to me. However, we all know that TV coverage doesn't end at the end of the game [set? match?] so to think they could be off the air by 08:10 (or earlier if they wanted to show the news and promos before EastEnders) when they were still playing tennis at 20:04 was ridiculous.

Not before 20:00, it wasn't. It was realistically the earliest they could have scheduled it for. You wouldn't give it any more time than that because the you'd have to fill and it would cause more problems later down the schedule. Perhaps you should familiarise yourself more with the sport. A game can take as little as 4 minutes really, so it could all have been over by 20:02. The decision to schedule EastEnders for 20:10 will have been taken well before 20:00, and they'd have wanted to get it on as early as possible. By 20:04, a time of 20:15 would probably have been more realistic but you wouldn't know that until then.

I've added a capture of the "very shortly" caption to the appropriate post earlier in the thread.

Sounds like it'll come from studio A then, which I don't think it has before.

The Murray match finished at 8.08pm. Coast was scheduled on BBC Two until 8.15pm. No reason at all why the tennis could have been off air by around 8.10-8.11, allowing Today at Wimbledon to start at 8.15pm with the Murray interview and analysis.

With no play expected anywhere but Centre Court for a while, BBC Two are giving Glastonbury some extra coverage from 15:00 until 16:30 when the football needs BBC One.

Yeah, that Glastonbury coverage has actually been on the EPGs all week, but wasn't listed in the Radio Times. I think it was an error and was always scheduled - there usually is a Glastonbury broadcast on BBC Two on the Saturday afternoon.

Always glad to hear Sporting Occasion is still getting an occasional outing.
