I know how much you all love me and how you'd hate to see me starve. So if you all watch the brilliant documentary on HTV West tonight at 7.30 and say how superb the narrator was, I'll get more work and will be able to afford to feed the kids (again) and get my mo-ped throught its MOT.

If things really take off I'll be able to give up the paper round.

Huge hugs to all!

What?

Army camp?

Hehehehe!

I'm dumping it into a WAV file, but he hasn't said anything yet that I can edit into a decent hostage demand message!

Well, we all know my feelings about HTV West ...

Couldn't you narrate for a proper channel?

Mmmm, I can and I do! Name a proper channel - NBC, CBS, Channel 4, BBC2, Carlton, Port Issac Adult Cable, Lard n' Trousers Digital (very popular in Leeds) and was in Holland last month and did two things for them- would that make it Double Dutch?

I'm interested to know why/how you became a voiceover & con. announcer...

...Did you wake up one morning and think to yourself 'Hmmm, I think I'll become a voiceover artist.'?

Or was it something you'd wanted to do since childhood?

Sorry about picking your brains, I'm just interested - I'd like to be an announcer some day (some day when I loose the campness from my voice, because unless I do, I'll only ever work for BBC Wales) Very Happy

As you asked so politely, it gors like this. Work background - investment management - Qualifications Double first Law and economics Oxford. Met someone who worked in commercial radio 1989 who explained how the adverts were made. Went into recording studio and made a demo cassette and posted it to as many addresses as I could find. Did first paid voice over session for an ILR station on the 28th Feb 1990 (my 30th birthday).

Kept sending demo's and making phone calls. Approached HTV with a view to getting voice work on promotions (trailers), kept on ringing them. One day they rang me and offered me a freelance continuity shift on HTV Wales, then came shifts on HTV West (have even read the news in-vision on West -twice - Badly!).
Offered contract for West contiunuity in 1998, left Jan 2000 when it moved to Meridian in Southampton, my colleague went with it. She's talented, a babe, has two children and a mortgage so the contract went to the right person.

I now do contiunuity on a freelance basis for no more than about 20 days each year.

That's it really :- Tips? Don't go on a voice over training course they tend to be just an expensive way of making a demo. Hire a music recording studio and record a voice demo and send it to everyone. Ask for feedback and advice from people other than family or friends (they'll just say you're good). Look and listen all the time, see if you can tell why someone is good and why someone is bad. Learn from good and bad alike.

There you are James (and anyone else who may be interested) never let it be said no one don't never tell you nuffin!

I Sir, have no morals. Your discerning nature spotted that instantaneously in an instant.

Whenever Beryl the Montacute Lollipop lady and my agent (part time) calls me 'Well my lover I 'as got a job for 'e. It's £4.75 an' your bus fare!' I grab the gig with both hands.

After Beryl takes her commission that's a quid for me so do I care about the quality of the station or its output? No! It's with some shame and an enormous overdraft that I record this response. In your judgement of me try not to be too harsh:D

A well-known quote from Friends:

'Have no morals, need the cash.....'

As long as you don't end up on HTV News with uncle Peter, and the scary looking woman, you'll be okay !

You don't have the talent to work for BBC Wales. Perhaps you could try HTV Wales Wink
