I'm on the "medium" package for VM television. Although I would like access to all the regular (and +1) channels, I don't want either sports or movies, so am left with this option.

I've had FX for the past couple of weeks, but its gone back to being "premium", and now I've just managed to get National Geographic which is usually unavailable.

I assume this is some kind of free taster to get me to subscribe further - although it won't persuade me as I would need either movies or sport to get my channel selection to the maximum.

Does anyone know for how long these "sample" channels are available and how they rotate?

I seem to have Discovery Science which I didn't have before - but I've had it for a fortnight now.

Confused, Edinburgh.

A quick look at the channel grid for their packages shows that you don't get very much on 'medium' at all. (What's the point of calling them Medium, Large and Extra Large when there is no Small?).

Nothing on the website indicates any sort of 'taster' events - so maybe your box is faulty if you keep getting additional channels on a temporary basis.

Sky have a habit of making channels FTV for a while to encourage people to upgrade their subscription. But these are normally well-advertised events, heavily promoted on Sky One/News etc.

Oh I just pay the extra £9 a month for XL then I get all the channels plus all the on demand goodness. Quite honestly the lower packages are poor Sad

Medium to XL sounds greater (in the pejorative sense) than Small to Large, so that's a no brainer.

Its not as if you "don't get much". I get most all the conventional channels, but don't get a lot of the +1 and some of the genre specific science channels.

Its not a faulty box. I know Nat Geo has done some free weekends in the past - but, as you say, there's nothing on the web to tell me when its coming.

NTL always used to have a "guest" channel, a channel one of the top packages made available to those on the bottom package, which changed monthly in addition to free weekends some channels did (like FilmFour). Not sure if they still do this now they're Virgin Media.

The Guest Channel is long gone, but if channels do a free weekend it's up to the Broadcaster. Yesterday MUTV was free on VM to celebrate United's title. Very Happy
