Hello. Please allow me to ask a couple of questions as I really want to know them:

1. Thames: Stanley Baxters Christmas Box. Was this show like a variety show, comedy, or what?

2. In Kenny Everett's shows for Thames like the Video Cassette, what was actually on the tapes?

Thank you for your time. Please Help.

It was mainly sketches, though there was plenty of music, though it was often danced out by Hot Gossip. Though with Everett's Thames shows there never was an audience laughing it was the studio crew. There was also alot of animation shown through the cartoon 'Captain Kremmen' and alot of the Thames spoofs that he did. A few spoof adverts aswell. (The best one for Stench-Away, get rid of your B.B.C and switch to I.T.V, brilliant stuff)

They have actually released a DVD of it this week that I picked up in Manchester today and it is very funny stuff, though it is a rerelease of two videos that were released by Thames in the 1980's, the DVD even has the original adverts for the videos.

Stanley Baxter was a comedy actor. He basically was Benny Hill only without the 'seaside postcard' slant to the jokes.
From what I remember of the LWT shows (which I guess were like the Thames ones) it was a mixture of comedy sketches - both studio and location, and funny songs. He would take the main part, with a supporting cast of other actors around him.

A favourite comic set-up of his, was to have a sketch with him playing all 5 parts, and through brilliant splicing often appearing as 3 different characters in the same shot.!
