I don't think they ever did use the window as a backdrop, it used to be just at the left hand side of shot. All you used to see were men in suits walking past as Rathbone Place is a bit of a side street where you don't get many kids

Oh really? I thought they'd have been on an upper floor with reception and offices on ground level.

Does this new Leicester Square site have an upper and lower level, so they will use TRL on the upper (as in new york, looking down on the crowd) and maybe have nick l8r on the ground?

At Rathbone Place you used to be able to watch them filming from the street, as the studio had a huge street level window. Then they started pulling a big curtain across so you couldn't watch anymore.

Last time I was there (last Summer), it was a café-type area with vending machines so I presumed Nick stopped using that area as a studio.

You could still watch Nick and Nick Jr's output on the street, on a series of small monitors by the door, with teletext subtitles.

Rathbone Place, just north of Oxford Street.

Where RadioRadio's Superstation was based? Smile

No idea, it is next door to where CNN* used to be and just round the corner from the RTL/Thames/Pearson TV** building

*Before they moved to the building which was to be Carltons HQ, but they never actually moved into
**not sure what it is called now

Did they used to have the window clear so that on screen u could
see out of the window and on the street u could see in?
I wonder why they got rid of this?

Are you sure that wasn't the original Nickelodeon studio had inside the Trocadero Centre near Piccadilly Circus?
As I recall, that particular studio was barely any bigger than the CBBC's old "Broom Cupboard" from the 1980's.

Did the short-lived whereitsat.tv also come from Leicester Square? I seem to remember seeing one of those nasty-looking steak-houses in the background.

Incidentally, their slogan always amused me: "Life's too short for c-r-a-p TV"... which is presumably why they only survived a few months. Wink

Yes and No - this cafe type area was used as a studio for about 8 months when they broadcast the "Nicktoons Cafe" from there (hence the cafe theme). Alas, it didn't last very long and isn't used at all any more - terrible waste of space now.

Their website is still online at http://www.whereits.at/ - and they seem to think that they'll be broadcasting again soon - although the website has been like that since it closed 2 years ago, and the presenters have now moved on to other things - namely CBBC (Barney)

Yeah i thought that was a good idea the cafe set, i remeber sometimes in the summer they did sit outside the studios for a few links. Did they not put a frosted look on that big window at one time and it had a stage and a door were the kids sometimes sat?
