Which year was it they had "splat" red noses that they put on the front on buildings? I think it was 1993, one building near us had it up for years.

I've got a vague memory of TOTP trying to live-overlay a red nose on a "live" (who knows whether it was or not...) performance from the US or somewhere once, only it lagged way behind and after 30 seconds or so they gave up and the red nose swooshed off-screen. Anyone else remember that?

The caption on the Bananarama video on the second episode was badly keyed on, with a black outline and flickering artifacts around the edges. All the other ones on the episode were fine though.

That was in 1995 on an edition also hosted by Lenny Henry, when the "victim" was Celine Dion, during a repeat showing of a satellite performance of "Think Twice" - the last of its seven weeks at Number 1.

Only one episode on the 28th, due to cycling earlier in the evening. They're definitely going to have to fit additional episodes elsewhere into the schedule now at various points this year, unless there's some episodes they're going to skip. So far so good for 1989 though, up to the 13th April edition at least.

Atrocious mic levels on that edition of TOTP just now - I could barely hear most of Bruno's links.

How could this sound issue have carried on for such a length of time without any seeming intervention? Did anyone ever mention it on "Points of View" or in the Radio Times (or other publications which were available) at the time?

Not in Radio Times - the only mention of TOTP in RT's letters pages around this time was a complaint a few weeks earlier regarding the cutting short of songs, in particular the Roy Orbison video. I think the cutting short has since become a bit less severe, for example the Donna Summer video last week was shown more or less in full.

Paul Ciani had clearly taped over the first two minutes of that Madonna video.

My guess is that UK Gold were heavily pushing the start of their Top of the Pops repeats, which appears to have included sending out promotional tapes to the media, in the hope they would then report on it.
