As I understand it, Thames TV shut down ages ago and was replaced by Carlton. So how come Thames still make programmes on ITV. Does this mean they aren't going to close down. And why does Fremantle Media claim to make Family Fortunes when it is made by Carlton?

and why did, TVS/Carlton claim credit for Catchphrase when Action Time has always made it. Thames aren't really the Thames they were but they sort of survived as an independant producer.

Why is it Freemantle Media UK when Pearson TV took over Freemantle?

No, Catchphrase still says 'Actiontime for Carlton' on it and Pearson was taken over by Fremantle

Thames Television plc lost its ITV franchise from 1st January 1993, however they continued as an independent production company, and a 50% shareholder in UK Gold (this stake was later acquired by Flextech). In 1994, they were taken over by Pearson Television and were renamed Pearson Television Productions Limited in 1999 (though they still traded under the Thames name, among others - the logo by now read 'Thames - A Pearson Television Company').

In 2000, Pearson plc sold Pearson Television to RTL Group (owners of Channel 5), henceforth Pearson Television was renamed FremantleMedia Limited (apparently RTL did not want their broadcasting brand to be used in production), and Pearson Television Productions Ltd was renamed Thames Television Limited (again). The logo now says 'Thames - A FremantleMedia Company'.

Thames Television is FremantleMedia's UK television production arm. They now make Pop Idol at the 'home of Thames' (Teddington) and I think they make The Bill there as well.

I think Family Affairs is made in independent studios.

Fremantle own the format - Carlton produces the UK version

TVS used to produce Catchphrase on their own - Action Time make it for Carlton since TVS went out the window.  The endcap on Catchphrase says 'an Action Time production for Carlton' !!!!!

Although Action Time's name may disappear from future series now Carlton have swallowed it up - and since last September have basically closed it down.

Thames is no longer based at Teddington AFAIK - they moved to Pearson's HQ in St Stephen's Street when they were bought. The Bill is I think made at Elstree or similar and I'm guessing Pop Idol is made at the London Studios.

Thames can't afford their own studios as a plain old production company. Sad

BTW Am I the only one that thinks Catchphrase is a lot worse since they got rid of Roy 'say-what-you-see' Walker and the old 80s set and graphics?

No. Nick Weir is a t***** . I love Carlton Central, and it's one of the worst shows they have ever produced.

And that includes Crossroads! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif

UK Gold was much better when Thames had a stake in it.

I always thought that the opening titles and theme music from around 1986 to around the mid 90s were fantastic. Probably because it actually had some different Catchphrases edited into it each week.
