Well that's a lovely random act of sabotage. I could see their point in being upset with the government, but what exactly is their problem with broadcasters? They're making themselves out to be bigger and bigger cranks every week, which is a shame, as they seem to have a genuine argument. (which I suppose you could argue we wouldn't hear if they weren't doing things like this - argh, I've argued myself into a hole Razz )

Whether you're for the cause or against it and whether you believe the original report that F4J claimed responsibility or today's denial by a senior F4J figure, you really have to admire SOMEBODY'S stupidity.

If you want maximum publicity for shutting down a television transmitter, do it in the middle of the transmission of the England football match, NOT THE DAY BEFORE.

For maximum impact, they need to take some lessons from the sixties and seventies Welsh Nationalists!

Transmitter sabotage has been done before. From Mike Brown's MB21 site, an interesting bit of info about Hannington:

Quote:
The site is notorious for two events. The first in 1976 when students managed to swamp out the off-air TV feed from Rowridge, and transmitted during the ITN news one Saturday evening a message from "Dorvac, Master of the Universe", orbiting Earth in his space ship! The second was in July 1994, when during the World Cup Final, someone switched off both HT electricity feeds to the site. The switches were in opposite directions, each about a mile away. Interestingly no actual damage was done to the switching equipment however. All services were off air for 2 hours. Southern Electricity offered a reward, no one has ever been caught to date.

Here in the North West, Tina Bangs was interupted by a piece from some other regional news show. That stayed on for about one minute and went back to Tina. Not sure if it was the same thing. Btw, it was not a report.

Yes, I hear that someone from Fathers 4 Justice was behind this one too. Apparently they plugged in their Acorn Oric to the transmitter chain, typed the magic password, and diverted North West Tonight to a feed of Spotlight. The poor people of Manchester and Liverpool were left needing treatment for shock at many of the local hospitals.

I understand they've had to change that password now, Bruce.

It's no longer "magic", it's now "ph74H7uuK56" in case you need it.
