Subtitles

I believe Red Bee's subtitlers are allowed to include their name - it's just that not all choose to do so.

I can't recall ever seeing names in RedBee Subtitles. Do you have an example?

Has anyone ever reported incorrect subtitles? I emailed subtitles@bbc.co.uk about a mistake in The Big Impression Show when it first aired and an example of about 5 or 6 mistakes in various episodes of Da Dick and Dom Dairies (this series has the worst caption-style subtitles I have ever seen). I happened to catch the repeat of that particular episode of The Big Impression Show (BBC repeat, not UKTV repeat) and the mistake was still there.

Come Dine with Me currently on Channel 4 has live-style subtitles but they are colour coded for the person speaking like caption style subtitles often are. I wonder if this is a new policy as a few programmes have been like this recently. It reminds me of how subtitles appear in America.

Nothing concrete, I'm afraid - other than a friend who worked for them in Glasgow who was rather excited at being allowed to put her name at the end of EastEnders. This was a couple of years ago now, so things may have changed.

Bit of a cock-up with the subtitles on BBC One during the F1 Qualifying programme at 5am this morning. For a while, we had both the subtitles for the programme and the subtitles for the BBC News channel at the same time. I think the person doing subtitles for the F1 programme quickly realised there was a problem as they moved their subtitles to the top of the screen and let the News Channel subtitles continue at the bottom so that they weren't typing over each other.

I guess some automated system wasn't told that 'joins BBC News channel' was only on BBC One until 5am this morning rather than the usual 6am.

In other news, Leanne's line "All that business with Carla before about going for a drink" in last nights Coronation Street became "All that business with Carla before about going through t'change" when it was subtitled. Talking of Early Onset Menopause, the British character Immie was subtitled as saying 'Mom' in Doctors this week. Is this a symptom of Red Bee Media farming their subtitling out to non-UK based subtitlers?

Or just pretentious southern subtitlers not understanding a Brummy.

Am at a bit of a loss as to why you'd assume that, even if it was an error, the subtitler was either pretentious or southern. Red Bee has subtitlers based in Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast and Newcastle as well as in London.

And Australia...

Had to laugh this morning when the subtitles on BBC Breakfast credited Amy Winehouse with winning the women's boxing in the Commonwealth Games. I think she was actually called Amy Moorhouse or something.

I think the former might have drawn more viewers.
