Takeaway is impossible right now isn't it? Win the Ads can't happen due to lack of an audience, nor can the Disneyworld finale. The series in progress when everything crashed down ended up abandoned, the last two timeslots instead being clipshows.

Although perhaps as it desperately needs freshening up being forced to rethink things might do it some good. Win the Ads could be done as a viewer comp.

I did think resting it would be wise, but then it would comeback just as it was, so maybe a change is as good as a rest.

The programme nicely avoided ITV's idiotic decision to close the London studios.

Saying it was the home of ITV since 1972 was stretching it a bit.

The logo they used on the tower during the animation was also the wrong one, but that's just being picky.

TV Forum is all about being picky and anal, so you're all good.

To be honest, I was convinced they were using the blue and yellow [itv] logo by the time it launched, but the launch trailer for CD:UK suggests otherwise.

That logo didn't come in until 6 weeks or so after SM:TV started.

Quiz made the same mistake (Who Wants to be a Millionaire also started in 1998), so I wonder if someone's going by the date it was designed instead of the date it appeared on air?

Quiz actually got it right!
DE88, DeMarkay and TVVT gave kudos

One 'getting away with it' memory I vividly have is the time Dec 'collapsed' on April 1st...I don't think ITV were too happy with scaring the kids that Dec was on the floor unconscious but it worked as it is one of the first things I remember if you mention 'SMTV' to me 25+ years later! Very Happy

That was awful. And it was Dec's bloody idea! David Liddiment and Nigel Pickard must have been frantic if they were watching it at home. I guess there is a slight chance they informed ITV playout from a transmission pov but that's not the same as telling ITV top brass. Reckless event.

I don't even know if ITV playout would have been informed seeing as the studio cut to an episode of Pokemon. Unless they were informed so to not cut away from SM:TV and put up an apology caption or ad break.

That video linked to here is one with embellishments like interference, static, cuts to black and colour bars that got posted here a few months back, none of which were part of the original broadcast.

Didn’t cwilliams doctor this event once to include 15 minutes of music?

Nah, someone on here explained they'd done it as part of some college project they were doing. The full video had even more embellishments including an apology caption and an extended hold on the Pokemon logo, whoever's re-uploaded it cut those bits out (and cropped it to 16:9, which also hides the obviously faked CITV DOG).

While I have already apologised for those embellishments (considering the video was originally set to unlisted when I uploaded it and not supposed to be publicly released), I would like to point out the embellishments I did were actually the adverts afterwards and a technical difficulties slide.

The actual SMTV clip comes from one of those Channel 5 talking heads shows.

So blame the producers of that if they messed around with it.

The whole thing was just weird. By the looks of the guests like Westlife they must have been told and the saturday squad. Trying to imagine the link between SMTV and ITV Playout (which I think was on the second floor of TLS at that time?). ITV TX: "What the hell happened there?" SMTV gallery: "Oh yeah erm...happy April fools!"
